Hi Everyone,

I put my 04 tourer through a full service yesterday and a number of things came up that require attention.

Heres the list:

Exhaust Manifold
Front and rear discs and pads
Front COM bushes
Battery
Some linkage of some sort (I can't remember)

Now Honda are quoting me £450 for the brakes, what are my options are there a better set that I can get for the same price or does anyone know any indy's that can do the job cheaper??

Thankfully the manifold is getting done on warranty so thats an instant £675 saving (Woop Woop)

I dont think I am gonna bother with the battery and teh COM bushes are quoted at £205 - What are these bushes and again can I get them replace somewhere else a bit cheaper??

I'm no mechanic so DIY is out of the question.

Hope you can help??

If they just want £450 for replacement of discs and pads. Imo go tell them to do one. I recently picked up EBC Black pads for front and rear axels for about £40, and I was looking at replacing the discs as well (EBC standard) which came to about £120.

Its not that hard to change the pads and discs if you follow the guides on here. So if you don't mind getting your hands a bit dirty and getting your sweat on a bit, you could do it for around £200 (thats including copper oil, wire brush, caliper wind tool)
I
Just my opinion, that all!!

Have a great day

Hi - I had contemplated EBC for my old Audi before however as I said I don't really have a clue where to start with a DIY job so I needa reliable Honda Indy in the northants area - Anyone know of any?

OK fair do's

Doesn't need a Honda specialist to change your brakes fella, it's quite easy on this car. Buy the EBC items and take it anywhere reputable.

Cheers F6had - Any ideas on the COM bushes?

They are likely talking about the compliance bushes, these are the large rubber bushes on your lower arms which bolt to the chassis. IIRC they are not that expensive about £25 each so just the labour to replace them.

Hey can anyoen comment on the wear difference on the standard Green EBCs compared to the Upgraded ones? Are the upgraded ones worth the extra cost?

Thanks Monks - If that is the case then Honda must be charging me £120 quid labour! Does that sound about right???

no, sounds too high.... i would think decent mechanic would do it in an hour.

Meaty who did your MOT? Was it Honda?

Compliance bushes can be a pain if you don't have a press, but most decent garages do and it should be half an hours work on each side. The standard EBC discs/pads are just fine unless you're looking for that bit extra on the braking.

No the previous owner did my MOT at Mr Clutch -this was a Full Service

Ooh the robbing b s t a r d s I must have something written on my forehead!

Got my exhaust manifold done FOC so the stealer can fek off!

When I first got my saloon (i-CDTI) in 2009 I had the discs and pads done by Steels in Hereford for £300.

The next time around, I got my mate to fit them (so labour is cheap admittedly) but I bought OEM equivalent for EBC - discs and pads. £150 fitted. £125 for parts. IIRC.

That sounds more like it - I just spoke to Honda $tealer in Northampton and they just quoted me £530 for front and back discs and pads! I nearly choked!

Mintex ones on eBay are around £75 for front and rear, discs and pads! Where do they get their prices!

Wow just been ringing around and received the following quotes:

Johnsons Honda - £435
Avondale honda - £530
Kwik Fit - £432.55
Shelltune - £235

EBC - Parts only £248.27 - Just need to find someone to fit them!

One of the garages said that it is recommended to fit the slotted discs with the greenstuff - has anyone fitted it on the standard discs?

Greenstuff will end up eating in to your discs, quite a hard compound. Stick to OEM unless you're looking to do some serious braking, then I'd suggest changing your calipers for some Accord Type R or even better.

I think they need some lessons with their caluclators!

My bad! Sorry theyre about £149 for Mintex all round.

Clearly you were only looking at half a car

Yeah priced them up for my boss but then remembered only doing fronts for him.

Good way to top him off - just give him 50% braking ;)

It's a fight for promotion these days. It'd be one leas

Not sure if oem but I've had them on previous cars and found them more than adequate. Had the pads on a Seat Leon Cupra R and they stopped it great (mind you it had Brembos on it). I'd happily put them on mine.

I've just after fitting EBC Greenstuff with grooved discs and the breaking is brilliant! I was a bit worried reading online about noise from the discs but I haven't noticed any real difference. I'd definately recommend them with these type of discs- i'm not sure with OEM discs as Fahad said they mite eat into them.

ATR calipers would be the best upgrade option IMO

I went for standard discs and pads in the end, just need a refurb on me alloys and then everything is tip top!

I will soon need pads all round and new rear discs.

Having had a quick scan thru ebay I reckon I can get all the pads and the 2 rear discs for £72 all in including postage

Discs are here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290502637348&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Rear pads: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170394966720&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Front pads: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170389037123&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Is there anything wrong with this kit? seems quite cheap!

cheers - phil
