Hi all, this is a guide to installing a Nokia CK-600 Bluetooth Carkit into a 2007 Facelift Accord Ex with Non-SatNav Premium Sound System (inc. amplifier)

Note: I had an old Nokia CK-7W carkit installed before so I had to remove this, you'll see some cables of it in some pics but just ignore them. The microphone from the CK-7W is identical to the one in the CK-600 so I left that there and there are no pics of its install - basically it runs up under the trim on the left-hand side of the window, under the trim on top of the window, and out beside the alarm sensors stuck on with Velcro.

Forgive the quality of some of the pics, they were taking with a phone and a wobbly hand :)

You'll need:

This is a pic of the carkit:

This is a pic of the my stereo that I hooked it up to:

PREREQUISITE:

Make sure to run a firmware upgrade on the Carkit device before installing it into your car. You can get the software from here: http://europe.nokia....ck-600/software download link is at the bottom of the page. MAKE SURE TO CONNECT THE DISPLAY UNIT TO THE DEVICE BEFORE DOING A FIRMWARE UPDATE - otherwise it'll just go into a loop and will not update.

Ok, let's get started:

#1

Pull the gearstick cover down from the bottom of the gear-knob so it clicks off.
Screw off the gear-knob.
Pull/clip up the section around the gearstick where the heated seat controls are.
Remove the connections from underneath the heated seat controls (blue and white, I think). Pull the unit off over the gearstick.

Remove the ashtray by pulling/clipping it out.
Remove the three connections at the back of the ashtray.

Now you should have something that looks like this:

#2

Next remove the screws from where they are marked below (removed before taking pic):

#3

Pull out the storage container outside fascia from under the stereo, one of the clips is show in the pic below:

#4

Remove the nuts marked below. Be careful not to drop them.

#5

Take out the storage container and it should look like this:
(note: the black box at the bottom is the amp)

#6

Next route the Nokia ISO cable through the indicated section:

#7

It'll come out like this:

... and the controller. This will be stuck with the provided Velcro to the left of the gear-stick when installation is complete:

#8

Here we have the SOT-047 cable which will interface between the Nokia's ISO cable and the amp + original connection into the amp + mute lead

#9

Connect the ISO connections together (from Nokia ISO to SOT-047's ISO connection)

#10

The following is a pic of what the original connection to the amp will be going into (blue) and the replacement for it (white)

#11

To take out the amplifier, remove the nuts where indicated.
(note: this pic was taken after connecting the SOT-047 cable, the connection indicated with the arrow is originally blue)

#12

Next remove the amp, take the blue connection (20 pin) out of the amp and plug it into the blue connection on the SOT-047 lead:

5573637217_c424a01e42_b.jpg

#13

Next plug the white connection of the SOT-047 lead into the amp where the blue connection originally was:

#14

Now we have to get the display mounted. I decided to mount it on the right hand side of the dashboard, I find that it works great here. The next few steps tells you how to install it neatly, just keep a firm pull on it when routing it through:

#15

By the driver's side door there is a soft material which you can pull out. Route the Nokia display's cable up here and out the top of it like so:

5573633693_e7cf68e9ed_b.jpg

and ...

5574220334_4f671654d6_b.jpg

#16

Next pull down the plastic section just above where your shins would be while driving in order to route the cable behind it:

and ...

5574220808_923fffc64d_b.jpg

#17

While the plastic cover is down, look for the holder indicated below and route the cable through it:

5573634491_8dc3fc129e_b.jpg

#18

Run it below the stereo like so:

5574221224_06b2af8296_b.jpg

... and out the left hand side like so:

5573634863_d2ddeaa782_b.jpg

... contd.:

#19

This is the part where you would install your microphone (described above in the intro)

#20

Now plug all the connections into the Nokia carkit device. This device hides away neatly in the section below and behind the glovebox - just pull it down and put the device and cables in there.

#21

Now we have to hook up the Radio Mute lead from the Nokia ISO Cable to the SOT-047's Mute connection which goes into the back of the stereo. Here are the steps:

5574224272_cd22e06ea6_b.jpg

#22

The following have to be joined, yellow into red. I found it easer to connect by cutting off a bit of the excess plastic on the yellow connection so it fits in more securely into the red one:

5573637705_778fb7650e_b.jpg

... like so:

5574223464_44415d03bb_b.jpg

#23

Now to get to the back of the stereo so we can plug the pink mute wire into it. Use a spatula to get underneath the air-vents above the radio and pry them up:

5573633141_3678e110ec_b.jpg

#24

Remove the screws where indicated:

5574219854_b84b8a0dcc_b.jpg

#25

Pop out the stereo like so. Be careful of the clip indicated. You can kinda see the blue rectangular connection where the pink mute wire is going to go into.

5574220032_fed6978bbf_b.jpg

#26

Take out the blue connection from the back of the stereo and put the spade connection from the pink mute wire into the spare/blank space into it. It is the fourth from the left. Make sure to push it in securely:

Finally, test to see if everything is working.

(Tip: Hold the red (hang-up) button for about 5 - 10 seconds on the Nokia controller to force the device to turn on)

CHECK FOR THIS KNOWN ISSUE BEFORE CLOSING EVERYTHING UP:

If the Nokia carkit device does not sense ignition
OR
the Nokia carkit device looses all contacts and has to re-sync when turned back on again
THEN
Swap the red and blue wires at the fuses on the Nokia ISO cable. If it very easy, the plastic joiners around the fuses just disassemble/clip out and you make red go to blue and visa-versa

If you are satisfied that everything is okay, then tidy up the cables with cable-ties or insulating tape and put the car back together again.

Nice one mate, been considering doing the same thing:)
Very good writeup and proper pics, excellent guide.
Dan

Excellent write up there buddy - takes some of the fear of trim removal away!!

An absolutely fantastic, and top quality write up Padraig.

This will be extremely useful not just for those contemplating the mod, but also looking at other mods that require removal of the dash trim.

I might end up doing this one myself at some point as I'm also running the CK7W and haven't changed from my Nokia E61i handset as it's the last one mady by Nokia to work with this kit via the pop port lead... need to move into the 21st century now really

Dan

You should, it's a great addition. I have mine paired with my HTC Desire HD and it works great.

By the way, how does the sound quality compare to the CK7W? I understand this kit has digital sound processing?

Thanks Dan, taking out the trim is easy ... just need to know where the clip connection points are and be carefully pulling them out.

Thanks Faddy, high praise indeed :) I'm sure you'll catch up sometime haha :p - tech I mean, I know your write-ups are second to none! :)

Yes, it has DSP

My old CK-7W had a separate external speaker which was installed under the gear stick - that was ok. The new CK-600 kit's voice calls comes out through the four door speakers. The sound quality is fantastic. There is no issue with feedback either and every body I talked to says the quality on their end is very good too.

The Nokia carkit can play music from your phone too, there are two options:

  1. Play directly through the four door speakers using the Nokia carkit's internal amp - what I have at the moment, okay if you're not too picky (not me :D )
  2. Play music through the Accord's amplifier making full use of the car's sound-system including all its speakers (what I want)
Option 1 is ready from the start, just play the music from the controller or phone and it'll start coming out the door speakers.

Option 2 is trickier: you need to cut the wire loop at the connection going into the carkit device and also get an RCA (red/white out from Nokia device) to Aux-In for the stereo. I have tried both Connects 2 CTVHOX001 and Connects 2 CTVHOX002 but both don't seem to work for me - I click AUX but nothing happens. Working on this at the moment, might need BlitzSafe HON/AUX DMX V.2X (e.g. http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/BLITZSAFE_HON_AUX_DMX_V2X.html)

Top quality write up pall. Plus rep point well earned.
This will come in handy when i fit my Parrot kit.

I already have the audio out the front two speakers with the telemute lead - I think that makes all the difference. I'm very interested in the sound quality difference you think from the new kit over the old CK7W you had though..

Great write up Padraig this will be good for other members wishing to do this mod

Thanks for the rep point!

The SOT-047 is for the Premium system with the amp, the non-premium stereo needs a similar cable, can't remember the exact model though.

great write up.... :) any pics of the final installation position mate?

The separate speaker that I had with the CK-7W was only okay, it was hidden under the gearstick and did not sound the best ... you could still make out what people were saying of course but there was something about it - slight booming noises, some crackling sounds sometime, etc. The new system is far better, it is like the person is in the car with you.

Nice clean install mate :)

nice install mate, you not worried about the theft issues of the screen? or does it come apart?

Thanks. The screen just slides up off the holder. The kit comes with a cloth bag for you to store the screen when you're not using it.

Great DIY,

Clearly going to be useful to many.

Thanks for taking the time to post it up, a valuable contribution to the forum and a great aid in getting those that aren't currently hands free a little more safe on the roads!
No excuses now is there.

Well seeing as its my birthday today (happy birthday me lol) my wife has decided that my ageing E61i must be replaced and has bought me a new E72.. so I think I'm going to upgrade from the CK7W and either get the CK300 or CK600 kit..

Happy birthday Faddy - you kept that quiet ;).
