I have 2 6th.Gen autos. I have a 2000 2.0i Exec SE Auto (bought 2003) and a 2001 Type-V 2.3i Auto (bought 2010). I would expect the latter to be slightly heavier on fuel than the 2.0 say 1-2mpg but it seems to be a lot heavier than that i.e. 3-4mpg heavier.
Does anyone know if that's right?
I do record the details at every fill up and I know they are used differently (wife commutes using the type-v) but I wouldn't have expected that difference. I'm comparing the figures against when she used the 2.0 for commuting. My experience of the 2.0 is that if you really want to burn fuel you can (VTEC) but you can also nurse it to save fuel when you have to and I recently managed 38mpg driving down from Fort William although IMHO that was a once off.
According (!) to the Honda workshop manual, the gearing on the auto Accords was changed from the 2001 year model. I'm ***uming that was to make it more responsive. The type-v does hold the gears longer than the 2.0 does. Although I still prefer the 2.0 auto, I can understand why they changed it as driving the 2.0 gearbox is an acquired taste if you've driven another auto (like my 1990 accord or Rover 827).
Best Regards...

PS the joke about my wife having a "heavy right foot" has already been cracked!
