04 i-CDTI Ex Tourer
When driving at night, none of the aircon or audio system controls are illuminated. Common sense suggeast they should be, but I've only had the car for a little over a month and have only driven it in the dark in the last week or so.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I know that some of the dash lights can be turned on and off by pressing and holding the CD button for a few seconds, not sure if this is what's been done on yours but worth a shot.

OK, I tried that but all it appears to do is turn the Radio LCD screen light on and off.

I've still got no illumination on any of the buttons and dials for the Audio or Aircon.

I'm ***uming (perhaps wrongly) that they should be illuminated when the lights are on.
 
Is this a facelift update perhaps? Will have a look at the brochures later.

It's a June '04 Tourer with the non-satnav CD auto-changer and climate control unit.

Should the buttons and dials illuminate when the lights are on? I can't find any reference to this in the handbook.

Yep, no mention in the books either... Must be a dead LED or summutt.
 
Looking at the speedo, is there a black stalk sticking out with what looks like a clock printed on it ?

If so turn this clockwise as it controls the illumination of the dash.

Have a look for a blown fuse also.

Yes I've got one of those and it dims the lights on the speedo /rev counter.

There's nothing I can see in the owner's manual that points to a particular fuse covering dash lights. I guess I'll have to go through them one by one.

do your sidelights work? if so then its not fuse and its the climate control/cd unit
 
Yes they should illuminate - no idea why they're not working.. never heard of this issue yet.
 
I take it only the Aircon and audio controls are not illuminated all other controls are illuminated?

What about the interior lights?

Could be either a fuse or alternatively a loose connection to the unit

Yes, that's right. All the other interior lights work OK as far as i can tell, including all the switches in the panel on the driver's door and passenger door.

I hope it's not a fault in the aircon/audio unit itself.

I came across some info on the internet about similar problems on 2003/2004 Accords in the USA where the unit had to be replaced under extended warranty because it was such a common fault. I've no idea how similar the US spec Accords are but, presumably, if it was a big problem over here there would have been a TSB relating to it.

I'll start with the fuses and if that doesn't reveal anything I guess I'll have to start pulling it apart!
 
Hi, i had this with my 04 ictdi. I searched this forum for clue as to what it may be and found your post. I decided to remove radio and check all the bulbs. They were all fine. So i thought a trip to my honda dealership was the answer, so i rebuilt dashboard and they all came to life. About 6 months before lights failed i fitted a parrot bluetooth have you fitted one? I wonder if one of plugs had loosened and broke the connection. There is only three plugs into unit and an aerial wire, The two green ones on top being the feed to dash and the light blue for radio. Hope you find this helps And before you pay a fortune at dealer .

Thanks for your reply.

I pulled mine out and had a look inside , but at the time didn't have a wiring diagram so I didn't know what to look for except loose plugs, I'm sure its a power feed problem. I've got a wiring diagram now but haven't had time pull it out again to check it.
 
Resurrecting an old one here, however we have the exact same fault with the same head unit.

The US headunits look to be somewhat different internally to the UK ones, however I wouldn't be surprised if it is the same fault, ie. blown fuse and/or resistor. I've had ours apart to look but didn't spot anything obvious.

I suspect however that it is the radio/headunit at fault, not the front button panel. Just like the US fault.

Looking at the PCB for the radio, it is apparent that the backlight for the LCD and the backlight for the rest of the buttons are fed from two separate feeds in the radio. That, added to the simplicity of the backlighting on the front button panel and the fact that all the bulbs tested ok makes me fairly sure that it's in the radio itself.

I do note that the LCD backlight is on, and varies in brightness as you adjust the brightness level, but it's incredibly weak, and to the untrained eye (or anything other than pitch black) looks completely off.


It would be good to find out what the expected voltage ranges are - would make life simpler.
