Hi just bought an 06 Accord EX CTDI , its had its engine warning lights on so I went and got it checked by a local mechanic who found the fault code to be P1237 , the warning lights have now been cleared but the car won't accelerate above 3k revs it just goes into limp mode with no warning lights now showing , any suggestions I've read a few posts that said its a good chance it could be the Fuel Filter , is there anything else I should inspect.

I would think its Thr FF mate. Get it changed with a genuine fuel filter and go from there.
Not sure what that code relates to exactly

agree with shabzy on this buddy^^^^ start with fuel filter as the using of non genuine honda fuel filters on the diesel has been the cause of endless problems...

Before you get carried away with changing your fuel filter it may be the EVR valve as I have just cured this exact problem with my car today after changing 2 genuine fuel filters. Read My Post

If you can, carry out the checks that I did by swapping the 2 EVR valves (solenoids) one is for the Turbo and the other is for the EGR valve. If you have an OBDII reader clear all the error codes then having swapped the EVR's restart the car, if you get the different error in my post this relates to the EGR Valve, meaning that it's the EVR valve (Solenoid) that has failed.

If you don't get any of the symptoms that I've mentioned then it may well be the fuel filter. At least with checking what I have said won't cost you anything before spending your had earned cash. Hopefully It is your fuel filter as that is a bit cheaper than a new EVR Valve which is around £185.00 It is number 9 on this link. Holdcroft Honda do sell it at a cheaper price and include delivery.

Allways try fuel filter first ! might never have had one, then go from there if needs must.
Whilst I do agree and hope that it is the fuel filter, I mentioned the procedure that I followed as this would not cost anything otherwise a fuel filter could be purchased and fitted and may not cure the problem then Gaz has made an unnecessary purchase and potentially paid for it to be fitted on top of that.

Sorry Cliff I did realise this was the the double post that you had commented in.

Thanks mate ill give that a try before I buy a fuel filter , where are the EVR Valves ( solenoids ) located and are they easy enough to swap over

***uming you have a face lift Accord they are very easy to located and replace. They are both under the engine cover, one is located at the top of the engine as you look at it whilst standing at the front of the car near to the fuel priming bladder (this is the one for the Turbo). The other is located to the right on the engine near to the air intake box. As I've said ***uming you have a face lift Accord they are identical so all that needs doing is discounting the 2 pipes and electrical connector then undoing the 2 bolts on each EVR Valve and swapping them over. If the EVR valve (solenoid) is faulty the car will probably go into limp home mode and give another error code of P1401 which is to do with the EGR valve.

I managed to clear these codes several times and momentarily EVR valve worked and the car drove as normal with the Turbo working correctly.

I would suggest that if you don't get a different error code or the car doesn't drive any better then replacing the fuel filter may help.

Incidentally when the car is in limp home mode it will not rev over 2k which is what was happening to me. When the codes were cleared the limp home mode was disable but the car drove very sluggishly and would go to maximum revs but there was little or no turbo boast.

Hope this helps

If you look at the second link in my other post the EVR Valves are both pictured on there and label as number 9. That whole diagram is effectively the top of the engine with the plastic acoustics cover removed (this is held on with four 10mm nuts) the 2 EVR valve are also held in place with two 10mm bolts each.

Gaz, do you need a garage in the northwest who specialises in Honda's and knows what he is talking about and doesnot charge the earth? There is one in Golborne (between leigh and St. Helens). Let me know as I am not sure if allowed to 'advertise' someone on this site????

Thanks mate ill give it a go and let you know how I get on
It may also be something as simple as one of the vacuum pipes has come off the EVR valves, or you have a leak in one of the pipes so check them as well.

Ive been driving round in the car today and the engine warning lights have not come back on but the car still won't rev above 3k , you can hear the turbo boosting up then when it hits 3k it kinda goes quiet and the power is very flat , I called in to see the mechanic again and he plugged it in again but this time there where no fault codes showing up ???

Possibly a blocked vac line or EVR valve as DL said, or fuel filter. Worst case, stuck EGR valve.

Did you try swapping the 2 EVR Valves or at least checking that the pipes were in place.

I took the engine cover off mate and checked all the vacuum pipes and they where all in place , ill order a new fuel filter as I don't know when the last one was changed so if its sell got probs after changing the fuel filter Ill know its one of the solenoids , luckily enough my wife has the same car so I can take hers off and swap them over with mine to check its them causing the fault.

mate i had the egr problem, cost a lot to sort, my advice, get your money back

Id be stupid to mate , I only paid £2300 for the car , its top spec CDTI Ex with Sat Nav , there selling on forecourts for 5k+

I guess you just found the reason it was cheap.

if it costs a few hundred to fix it's still a cheap car for me , this is the third accord cdti I've bought , there good cars , I had one as a taxi and it Covered over 300k miles with hardly any problems

My suggestion to you would be to swap with your wife's solenoids before changing the fuel filter as it would only take 10 minutes then you could probably rule the solenoid out if doesn't cure your problem. Just be careful not to damage the solenoids as you don't want to 4 in one hit. ;)

I'm not knocking it mate, a bargain is a bargain! I just meant that there was probably a reason it was cheap i.e someone thought it might be an expensive fix.

True I know what you mean mate , the guy who I bought it off seemed genuine , he had got a new job with a company car so he said that was the reason he was selling it , I'm going to use it as a taxi as my current 2004 Accord CDTI has covered 300k and has been a good car for the last 5 years but I think its time to change now I've had my money's worth from it , hopefully a few hundred quid will put my new Accord right , Im going to try and sort it next week when I've got some spare time on my hands , luckily for me my wife has virtually the same car so I can try different parts off her car to test mine

You certainly did get your monies worth with 300k on the clock.

Just a quick note though, if your wife's car is a pre-face lift and yours is a face lift or vice versa you wont be able to swap the EVR Valves as I think they're different.

Great at least you can hopefully rule out the EVR Value

Give her the faulty parts, a woman has no place going over 3k RPM anyway...

JOKE!!
