Most of you will no im a taxi driver in york and after new car for taxi well ive just been informed by my lovely york council that all new taxis put on road must be euro 5 emission which is 1st september 2010 or petrol must meet euro 4 which is jan 2006 so after advice on a good petrol motor for taxi with good mpg any ideas dont really want to leave honda

Hi Dave
In all honesty the Accord petrol is a nice reliable motor. However for Taxi they can be thirsty which is there only real downfall. Have you considered a diesel at all. My dad currently has an Astra Estate diesel 57 plate which has been really good..
what cars do you have in mind and what is your budget?

was also going to say 2.0 Honda Accord , I've had 3 Accord CDTI as private hire taxi's over the years and wouldn't have anything else mate , theres not many taxi's out there that cover 30k miles driving around town and only require ball joints and drop links to pass

Skoda Octavia hatch with a frugal diesel lump is the best choice for taxi imo.

skoda bud or the choice in london seems to be the diesel avensis

Skoda Superb I'd say, but definitely go German.

All the taxis in Eastbourne are white Skoda Octavia. Almost bought the RS version myself before buying the Accord (the Mrs put her foot down, being an old fashioned Japanese brand snob - refused to be driven around in the Skoda, so I told her the only other option was the more expensive Accord  . She went with it ;) ).

A couple of regulars at the pub are taxi drivers. Ones for an E Class something or other, and the other has a Mondeo diesel with 300,000 miles on it.

I have a new Honda diesel Accord saloon. I love it though I have to admit what with the smallish boot and sat nav player hanging down, there is difficulty getting two full sized cases in. It's the only thing I can fault, but might make a great disadvantage for a taxi driver...
