A couple of modding questions.

Hi all,

I've never actually owned a car that I considered worthy of spending money on for modifying, but an accord has been my dream car for years and now I have one.

Im looking to eventually change the suspension, exhaust and bodykit on my car. This will be a long term project as Im not exactly falling over wads of cash right now.

I have a couple of questions regarding bodykits and exhausts that I hope someone can answer for me.

I have the 2005 2.4 exec model, would I need to change the bumpers entirely or is it just lip kits I would need to make it a Type-s lookalike? Also, I cant see any difference between the side skirts on my car and the type S, are they the same?

Ive looked at a few cat back systems, such as the skunk 2 and the fujitsubo legalis R. Obviously they aren't cheap and its more of a "wish list" than a "purchase next week" kind of thing but is it enough to simply buy a catback system? Is the stock manifold going to be too restrictive for that kind of system?

Sorry for being such a noob, but you guys seem pretty helpful from what I've read and pretty friendly too so I hope you can go easy on me... lol

I've not looked myself much into this but you can buy lip kits pretty easy I know and if you can't buy the type s lip kit then have a look at breakers yards dude.

As for the exhaust a car back system is fine, stock manifolds aren't actually too bad and you still get some performance from a cat back. Best to be had along with a remap and decent airbox/good panel filter

On the suspension side of things you can't go wrong by reading the link below. I personally just bought the Honda A-Spec suspension and thinks it's class, but if you want lower then coily's are the way to go for you

Since you've already a petrol bumper you can just fit a type s style lip kit onto your original bumpers. You could either get new from honda which are about £350 each or there is some guy offering replicas on ebay significantly cheaper, i think they were less than £100 each. The type s skirts have a slight kick to the ends, its subtle but you can only see if you park a type s next to a non type s.

As for exhausts i'd say the full system is pretty restrictive, i've yet to get a manifold but from someone else i know who's replaced the whole system he says its really noticable in terms of gains.

Crespo, your car is looking pretty sweet indeed. The roads up here are pretty hellish though, I couldn't get away with wheels that big and still have any ride comfort

Id really like to get the lip kit, front and rear... but can it be pulled off with just the standard exec side skirts or is the kick noticeable enough to ruin the look? I had seen the replicas on ebay... would like to keep it all genuine though for re-sale purposes, if I ever sell it, can't decide if I should just run it in to the ground or try get a few k back on it in a couple of years.

Suspension wise, I think I'll try and get the lip kit sorted before I venture into that side of things, with the exhaust coming last. The handling is pretty good at stock, but I feel the car rolls a bit much in the tight bends up here in the back of beyond, needs stiffening up a bit but not ridiculous amounts or I'll be eating tyres like crazy with the roads in the mess they are.

Speaking of which, alloys may have to be the very first purchase before anything else since Im losing air weekly on the honda alloys - they were in a state (16" Enkei 5 Spoke) when I went to view the car and as part of the purchase agreement I asked that they be refurbed, however only the fronts of the alloys were refurbed and the insides are still in a tatty mess so Im ***uming Im leaking air as a result..... Only ***** is I have a nice set of Michelin Primacys on the car with stacks of wear left on them, so unless I replace them with another 16" alloy i'll have to fork out for tyres too. I was really hoping to go to 17" on an upgrade to make it worthwhile but I might just wear these tyres out first and suffer the weekly air loss.

I dont suppose anyone more knowledgeable than I could give me part numbers for the genuine lip kits I would need from honda? Pretty please n all that

For suspension i'd recommend getting a thicker rear antiroll bar asap. It will drastically reduce your bodyroll. This is the one i've got:

As for the lips, im sure there are a few folk on here who bought the replicas and were more than happy with the fitment and quality. I think get the front and rear first, and if the sides still look shallow then maybe think about getting replacement sides too

Hey Oz, I was looking at the rear sway bar today - the stock one is pretty damn thin and really corroded. Is the progress bar sound to fit without any other suspension mods? Just that the stock bar seems very close to the underneath of the car already, I ***ume the fixings on the progress bar allow it to be installed at roughly the same gap from the bodywork and thats where the adjustment holes come in to play? Sorry, total noob. Cheers mate

Yeah its a total straight bolt on swap, it comes with bigger D link bushes to install too. Plenty space under there to fit it too. You can easily fit one without any other suspension mods too, a couple of people here already have

Had a thought today.... regarding this sway bar, would I be better putting the money towards the Honda A-spec lowering kit? Surely there wouldnt be such a need for the bigger sway bar then? Its just that at nearly 200 notes Im almost a third of the way to the lowering kit and wonder if saving my money for that might be the thing to do?

The anti roll bar made a big difference to mine, it was the only suspension part i got fitted after the rest so i know how much of a difference it made. Always try to get the more expensive stuff first. So i'd agree with you, if you're set on lowering it then go for the aspec kit first as its the most expensive part. Then later on you can add the anti roll bar, and yes, you will feel the difference after too.

Dunipace/Denny/Dennyloanhead... they all look the same to me, lol! The new shopping centre to be built in denny should really help the local economy, no idea when they're gonna start though, the ****** flats have been boarded up for years now

Yeah "the flats" are pretty mingin, have been since construction I think, they had rendered the end walls where they knocked the job centre down when I was there about a month ago so thats probably a good indicator that they've run out of cash for the time being. Shockeroony

When most folk were first buying them they were roughly £550 retail im sure so £485 is a great price. But then coilovers aren't that far away from that price either, lol :lol:

Since the motorway opened fully and the roadworks were cleared i've just been using the m80 everyday, its so much easier than going through denny now. Ive not seen what work they've done yet to the centre, i didnt even know the job centre had been pulled.

I saw that deal, sods law it would be when the car is already due a service. Can't stretch to it at all the now, more is the pity. Can't say Im not tempted just to whap it on my credit card but its kicking me in the nuts on a monthly basis as it is, MUST..... RE..SISSSST...

lol, good lad! Aint no mod worth goin into more debt. Who knows, by the time you've saved you could have enough to go for coilovers :lol:
