Hi my 2003 2.0 ltr petrol engine tourer Ex battery keeps going flat and not enough charge to start it if left unused over weekend.Had new battery 6 months ago, i have had the battery and alternator checked at local garage and all ok .
I dont have the hft or bluetooth fitted as standard, but have x-carlink bluetooth unit fitted which works fine.Has anyone any ideas as where to look as its a pain to keep charging the battery? regards john.

there must be something drawing a current from the battery while it's not in use. You need to investigate where that is, it could be your x-carlink or something else.

With the car off, put a current meter between the battery and positive lead, then remove and put back fuses and relays until you see a change.

Try do this in quiet place and listen out for any relay clicks when you pull off the battery lead.

I would have thought that the x-carlink is only drawing power whilst switched by the ignition key, unless other people have had one go faulty I haven't seen a post of this. I have never owned or used a multimeter nor know how to use one , I could get one if they are easy to use for checking this out.

Try disconnecting the alarm in the boot behind the RH sidepanel/subwoofer. The small battery in there can go bad and draw enough to kill a battery over time.

Am i better of buying a replacement battery for the alarm and just changing it just to be sure ?

Hard to say. The battery might be fine, and you have something else going on. There are numerous conversations online about accords losing voltage, and not all of them are caused by the alarm.

I meant the Alarm battery, its a NI-MH so they have a limited lifetime.

Hi, having done some online searching other people have had similar problems with battery drain and some have found/diagnosed that the relay for the a/c in fusebox going faulty and not switching off. This staying on causing constant drain on battery even though supposedly off , so i removed the relay and touchwood battery not gone flat for last four days so heres hoping its this. The a/c hasnt worked last few months but the condenser is falling apart so i thought it was that, I will replace with new relay before next summer also condenser but can live without it over winter.

Yes I read about that on Eric the Car Guy, but then Eric said in his experience it wasn't common.. so didn't point you there in case it wasted your time

Hi , car has behaved itself up to yesterday and struggled to turn over so put on charge overnight so fine today . Guess i will change alarm battery next and see how it goes from there.
Thanks for suggestions so far guys.

Hi i have disconnected the alarm battery no difference to drain on battery, bought a multimeter to attempt to find drain . I found that when i remove fuse number 15 under bonnet fusebox 40 amp drain drops to almost nothing, book says ( back up acc ) anyone knows what this is for/ protecting ?

The #15 feeds fuses 5,6,7,8 under the dash , now use the multimeter to check which of those fuses is powered up after the ecu is shut down.
It could be something like a faulty door solenoid or similar, start by working through those fuses to find which one is the problem.

I tried chasing this drain only to goose the fuses in the multi meter so next job is find fresh fuses and try again, all good fun. just to play safe for now i have bought a powerpack to start when battery goes flat again.

Good job that I bought the battery booster, today went out drove in excess of 50 miles stopped at destination. I needed to move car a few moments later battery totally dead trying to start lights on dash just flickered and car wouldn't turn engine over out with the booster pack and instant start. I really need to sort this problem out, put battery on charge as soon as i got home then removed the two things that i have added which is X-Car link and led bulbs in interior roof lights. X-Car link been in around three years and led bulbs about four months so will see what if any change on battery plus i will buy another multimeter as no joy trying to find correct fuses for the laser one i bought from halfrauds.

Hi i haven't managed to find the fault yet but got a strange problem when testing i find that power draw is almost nothing when fuse six is removed under dash fuse box but with this removed the radio and all displays are off but heating still works but no display , the user manual shows that fuse number 5 is for the radio and 6 is for the interior lights ? anybody got any ideas help please.

You may need to check the door light switches to make sure they are all turning off and the door locks as well.

At the risk of pointing out the obvious did you have any of the doors open when you tested fuse 6?

Hi , yes had drivers door open but i have removed the roof light bulbs. As i have just answered this it has dawned on me about the door lights. Plan B put clamp on door switch and try again later today .

I like this thread. Not the fact that you've got this mystery electrical problem, but it's like our own little version of CSI.

If you can't find the actual problem, but are sure it's behind fuse 6, just wire in a small switch that deactivates fuse 6 when you park. Or a relay if you want it to be automatic.

Hi, I eventually gave up and asked local garage to check it out for me. They tested the battery then the alternator both seemed ok then retested the alternator after it had been left running only to find that it was only putting out 11.3 volts when running but had been putting out 12.6 when started initially. New alternator been on since Tuesday car has been ok since then , I fitted new battery to alarm which arrived on Wednesday just playing safe, also put X-carlink back in thankfully wasnt that draining the car battery . Garage said not unusual for a faulty alternator to drain battery so all good up to now.
