Hi all, new kid here...

I hope someone may be able to advise? A problem has become noticeable over the past few weeks, in that when shifting from fourth gear to third, it is tricky to slot it in, resulting in my de-clutching two or three times whilst searching the gate, trying not to select fifth or first gear by mistake. Third to fourth is easy, as are fourth to fifth and fourth to second; it's as though the lever isn't centring itself properly.

Is this a known condition, and easily treated, or am I looking at a shot gearbox? Otherwise the car is great, so I hope it's not the latter!

Thanks for any advice. Cheers!

well my cl7 with 190k on the clock is still nice smooth and solid, beautiful gear changes... so I think somethings wrong with your gearbox

:( Oh dear. I suppose this could be my arthritic left foot telling me it's time to replace it with a slushbox-equipped example... Thanks.

I usually heel & toe anyway, so I blip the throttle a couple of times when trying to find the gate. I tried without doing that and it's even more difficult to select third, so yes. It's weird in that once the stick is in the "right" position it goes in easily.

the centering springs in the selector ***embly are highly unlikely to get gunked up but it is a serviceable part, if you're in the area you can also check the selector/shifter levers and bushings for play on the way down into the box

Hi Mike, thanks for that. If it's a serviceable part without hooking the engine out, perhaps I can get someone to investigate.

It is, but I have not been able to find a part number for replacement springs so it might be easier to drop in a complete ***embly, new or used and not have to worry about alignment
Acuity instruments sells stiffer springs for k series transmissions but the selector as a whole is interchangeable between several models judging by part numbers
