2005 2.0 SE manual
This subject is probably the most discussed on any car forum, and as a new member I appologise for bringing it up again.
I have a 2005 2 ltr manual with 44,000 miles on the clock and will be doing an oil and filter change soon, the car will only be doing about 4,000 miles a year max,,the handbook suggests various viscosity, I’m thinking of using 5w 30 but book does not mention the specification ,,can anyone suggest a good quality oil for my needs.
Any replies would be appreciated

We’ve got the same engine in my wife’s FRV and it’s now on over 200k miles. I use either 5w40 or 5w30 depending on what I’ve got in bulk at that time as we have a few cars in the household. This engine is not fussy over oil at all, just ensure it’s fully synthetic.

I use Exol oil, I believe a lot of others on here use that brand too. I use 0w30 for my I-DTEC, however, I'm sure their other specs 5w30 and 5w40 are just as good.
Great value for money and really good quality, I change mine every 8k miles and it comes out clean every time.

We’re talking about the k20a6 petrol engine here

Personally an A5 0W-30 or 0W-40 would be my recommendation

I also made the switch to exol in my k20 in the form of 0W30.Fantastic oil, engine seems to really like it and after 10 months or so still has its colour and texture.I wont use anything else in mine now.Screenshot_20210422-101917_eBay_compress94.jpg

Thanks guys for the input, I did a bit of research on the exol and it comes out very favourable, with that in mind I’m giving it a try, ordered some 0w 30
once again appreciate the replies

For those who have switched to 0w30 do you need to top up frequently?

I've had my 2.4 petrol for nearly 8 years. I used 5w30 until last year when I switched to 5w40. The main reason was to see if the engine needed less top ups. I think it's a little better at not burning.

I did have a 20L drum of exol 5w30 that was handy for topping up but when that ran out I got a 5L bottle of Shell Helix 5w40. I've used what was left for topping up and another bottle is £40. So I'm either looking at getting the same grade in a 20L exol drum or changing it to 0w30. The exol 20L drum is very good value compared to 5L of Helix! Do lube tech still have a discount code?

I don't do much mileage, no more than 3k miles a year and I was actually thinking of changing the oil every 2 years. Would the engine like that?

The oil will degrade even when the engine isn’t being used so not advisable to prolong oil changes in my opinion.

Yep I know you're right and it doesn't take long to change really. I'm going to go with the exol 0w30 from lubetech.

Where is everyone buying oil filters now, genuine Honda ones with a sump washer? I used to buy from Holdcroft but they don't have them separately on the website any more. Cox motorparts is almost £18 with delivery! I bought some a few years a go and used the last one last year.

Just call Holdcroft and speak to anyone in parts, tell them you were referred by Fahad from TypeAccord.

I use Castrol 0W-30 C3 oil in my 2004 Accord Tourer K20A6. I have used this for the past three oil changes and the engine seems very happy after each oil change. I went to the dealer once to purchase oil and they gave me this exact one (not even packaged as Honda Oil). I buy Honda filters which are manufactured by Purflux. Last time I changed my oil about a month ago I paid 17 euros for the filter. I think I may switch to Purflux as I'm sure it is cheaper. I do my own changes but pay around 80€ to change my own oil with OEM filter and Castrol full-synth oil. Quite pricey but I ***ume this is the best and cheapest way to keep the engine happy in the long run. I have always done my own changes so nothing is over-tightened and I know what 'blood' went into the heart of my car.

Thanks for the tip but I'm in France and costs would probably be prohibitive
