Car
Accord 2.2 Diesel.
It actually worked the other day! Stayed up - and kept it up! I could hear an unusual ticking.
Did the normal propping it up with a stick and then it stayed erect. Now it can get it up but it doesn't last.
Any ideas please?

Joking apart. It really did stay up so I think it's electrical. I have a broomstick so it's a minor irritation on an otherwise amazing car (other car is a Minor).
This is my second Accord Tourer. The previous one was mostly propelled by RAC truck. This one is a goer! Don't want to scap it when MOT runs out because, despite it's age and faults, I'm in love with it.
Thank you.

It was like magic, the tailgate stayed open! There was a ticking I'd never heard before and abracadabra it really did stay open. Key opens then immediately closes.

Of course I will try the struts if necesary but this felt like an electrical problem. It opens, beeps, then beeps again and closes.

The closing of the tailgate has already snapped two broomsticks so there is power there!

Thank you so much for your replies.

Typo - necessary (I'm a B....... English teache)r. It was a typo - honest!

It does sound like a duff sensor or a broken wire, but check there is no damp in the roofline first.(check door seal for dirt/debris, clean with damp soapy rag).

Does your tourer have rails and do you put stuff on the roof ?

Thank you. I will try the cleaning of the seal and look for a broken wire.
It does have rails but no, I don't put stuff on the roof.

You could confirm it is not the strut by opening the boot whilst disconnecting the battery.

I forgot to ask if you have already pulled the -ve lead just in case this resets the boot mechanism. I had a fault - no locking -which was cured by pulling the battery out for a few minutes.

Hi all, bit late but here goes ---- mine is 54 plate 2.4 auto exec tourer.
in warm weather, boot opens from the key and stays up -- in cold weather boot opens from the key, beeps then closes again ?
This tells me the motor, wiring, struts etc., are all ok otherwise it would not work at all ! So looking on the "Lings Honda" also on the "parts-honda.uk" website diagram it shows mounted at the rear of the boot under the roof lining - what is termed " Ambient Sensor" part number 80525SS0942 This would suggest " Ambient " to do with temperature ? Which in my case would account for the above problem warm or cold weather - Just a thought, I will look into this further when I get chance.
Food for thought !

seems odd I must admit, but it seems the only logical explanation for the problem with my car ! I have had a quick search but can find no mention anywhere about this sensor above the roof lining near the motor and struts etc., does not make sense !

Could just be the cold affecting the boot struts, reducing expansion and travel, try changing them first.

Yes I suppose that is possible, I am going to contact Honda next week - although I don`t expect that they will be much help ! what you usually get is " Book it in, we will ride all over you rough shod, punch every hole you have in your body " tell you it could be this that or the other and then hit you with a large bill !!!! The last time my car went to my local Honda dealership - long storey - 4 years ago they buggered my auto box and charged me over £500 and it ended up costing me another £2004 for a fully recon gearbox from Tameside Transmissions in Manchester who were brilliant !! Highly recommended -- So as you can probably gather, I don`t have much faith in Honda dealers !!!!!!!!!!!!! " The Power of Dreams" yeah right !!! Sorry about the rant !
Anyway I will look into it next week - at worst I will get a stronger prop !! : ) it is no big deal but I just want my car as it should be, I bought it in 2008 and have spent whatever was needed on it Religiously - it`s next to immaculate and I want to keep it that way.

Don't bother with honda, as you fear they will rip you off. Get some struts off ebay and fit them if you can. I had a lot of trouble trying to fit some on an audi a3, such a tight fit, got there eventually. They don't last forever.

I would rather take my car to the Chines chippy rather than my local Honda dealer ! I had a High Pressure steering hose blow a few weeks ago Honda wanted £349.99 just for the pipe !!! bought one from a company in Birmingham of eBay for £52 free post, if I could have waited I could have got one from Amazon for £25 but it was coming from China so would have also had VAT but would have took a lot longer to arrive ! I tried to fit it myself but could not get the old one off ( I am too old now ) so my local garage fitted it for £58.64 including oil and he did comment that he struggled to get the old one off, so I din`t feel quite as useless : ) - I hate to think what Honda would have charged ? I know ALL firms have to make a profit and a living ! but come on - I don`t agree to being robbed - I will never have my car in Honda again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel that strongly - when will firms learn, if you rob someone, the chance you will go back to use them again is zilch !! I suppose there are enough mugs out there that they could not care less ( and that`s unfair to a lot of people who have no choice ) - Big pity - but hey, that`s life
Yes I have found a pair for a reasonable price on eBay, but will need to check they are the correct ones first, so will probably give it a go when I get to it, its not urgent so will get to it as and when.
Thanks for you input.
