Not limp home but sort of the same

Do you know for sure the ecu hasn’t been remapped or messed with?

And what’s the error code? Have you plugged in a scanner? Can you post a pic of the part you’re referring to because your fuel filter should be a Bosch canister unit.

I would still contact Garrett and get an official response, aftermarket turbo rebuilders are not always a reliable source. But it does make some logical sense.

I’m asuming your car is the 2006 onwards facelift? In which case the fuel filter is made by Denso and is a different unit to the older Bosch filter fitted to the pre facelift cars. there are no warning lights or dtc codes?

I think your best bet is to contact Garrett and ask the question.. it’s their product after all.

    Type S i-dtec Turbo query.

It wouldn’t be that simple as the intercooler on the Type S is over twice the size of the stock one and the mapping parameters are totally different. We have had both type S and standard turbo in and they look identical externally with the same actuator so perhaps the vanes geometry is slightly...

    Type S i-dtec Turbo query.

That’s interesting, if your car has a hybrid turbo that’s probably why it isn’t boosting as expected. As for the differences, I’ve always believed they were identical but it’s worth dropping the manufacturer a line to ask for some clarification.

I would remove your egr bypass pipe (if pre facelift) or the egr (of facelift) and give the intake port a nice clean and also check the intake flap has nice free range of movement.

Any restriction in fuel pressure or supply would trigger a flashing glow plug light and normally a dtc such as P1605. I’ve seen dtc tables mapped out and instrument bulbs missing many times so worth ruling out before chasing your tail.

Not limp home but sort of the same

Are your engine malfunction and glow plug instrument bulbs working when you turn on the ignition? If not then someone has removed them. Based on your symptom I would also suspect someone has remapped your ecu and removed the dtc table which would result in no errors being found. I can solve...

    VSS 3rd attempt?

Hopefully that solves it. Keep us posted, this is good information to share for our knowledge base.

    Accelerator response

No offence taken mate, I’m just sharing my opinion based on my own experience with these cars. You might be right and it could be perfectly normal.

    Accelerator response

It’s hard to tell clearly from this post but I suspect you more likely have an egr issue, which normally results in sluggish throttle response and hesitation. Drop me a line if you want to book for a diagnostic session. Tightening the accelerator cable won’t do anything.

Low MPG, bad vibrating/shaking when running idle, low revs or reversing.

If it’s under warranty then worth booking in with them before it expires

They tune really well mate, just depends on what you want from it really. Drop me a line separately if you want to discuss.

Replacing the Glow Plug Controller Relay

Yes it is a straight swap of the relay for a new one.

Low MPG, bad vibrating/shaking when running idle, low revs or reversing.

Hi eddy, is the idle also present in neutral on idle or just when in drive? Ideally it needs to go on a diagnostic, sounds like a possible bad injector perhaps. You can book with me if interested, drop me a line.

Replacing the Glow Plug Controller Relay

Hi the issue isn’t your relay but one of your glow plugs, likely a hairline crack in one of them and not always visible. Avoid aftermarket glow plugs, the ecu is sensitive to the quality and expects a certain millisecond response time which substandard plugs often can’t meet and end up...

    CEL on

Strange that there’s no code but engine light is on? Can you disconnect battery overnight and keep it on charge and try? Otherwise get it plugged into a decent diagnostic machine or if possible a HDS
