Hi, after a bit advice, I need a steering rack for my car 2008 CN1 2.2 cdti sport GT. Question is:- are all the racks the same for the diesel? as a lot I can find look and say compatible but I can't find any with a matching model/part number I have on mine and non of them appear to have the same numbers on the sticker any way. Cheers in advance.

I would think so, there's no reason for them to be different. Indeed I'd stick my neck out and say it's probably the same on the petrol models.

If you want to check on different models and years, start here http://www.lingshondaparts.com/cars/oem-car-parts-diagrams.html

Here is the page of "thumbnails" of drawings for your car http://www.lingshondaparts.com/honda_car_parts_block_selection_C30.php?mod_01=3248

The rack is item 13 in this drawing http://www.lingshondaparts.com/honda_car_parts_selection_pfk.php?block_01=17SEA701&block_02=B__3311&block_03=3248&block_05=hcr

But note that the part numbers begin with "PFKL", to get proper Honda part numbers remove "_pfk" from the URL http://www.lingshondaparts.com/honda_car_parts_selection.php?block_01=17SEA701&block_02=B__3311&block_03=3248&block_05=hcr

If you check on other models/years if they begin "53601" for that part, they ought to be the same.

I'm sure that there's a "Honda part numbers explained" on the forum, but otherwise google would find it.

Let's look at the part number in the last link in #2, which is 53601-SEF-E13

What I said in #2 is potentially misleading, "53601" = "power steering box/rack complete" but you'd need to be careful because if you started looking at Civic's then you'd probably find that the same part also begins with "53601" and I wouldn't expect a Civic "53601" to fit an Accord (though you never know).

What I am saying is that, since the body-shell of all 7th gens are the same (from B-pillar forwards) then I would expect that all part numbers beginning "53601" for any 7th gen Accord should fit any 7th gen Accord.

But, if you want to be more certain, the next part "SEF" is more specific to the car model, so any 53601-SEF is the same whatever the year.

However ......

Here is the link for the Tourer version of your car http://www.lingshondaparts.com/honda_car_parts_selection.php?block_01=17SED601&block_02=B__3311&block_03=845&block_05=hcr

part number = 53601-SEG-E05

But this is certain to fit your car because, from B-pillar forwards, there is no difference mechanically between a 2008 2.2 SE Sport Saloon (aka CN1) and a 2008 2.2 SE Sport Tourer (aka CN2).

i.e. from B-pillar forwards SEF mechanical parts, and SEG mechanical parts, are the same.

Furthermore, by extension, I would expect any steering rack on any CN1 to fit any CN1 or any CN2, and vice versa.

Ok great that helps a lot as my current rack had the code:
SEF-E1, just looking at them on eBay etc and all look the same and all claim to fit all years but want to double triple check before I purchase one. Cheers

One I'm looking at says code: SEF-E0, so I think that's a close match for the one I have. And it states it fits all accord mk7 2003-2008

Never known a rack to fail in one of these cars yet Neil, you sure that's your issue?

Yip. Thought it was an inner tie rod, it's had a bit of a clunk since I bought it. Changed the tie rod and when I tightened it up the toothed rack its self I noticed had play. And when running I can grab it and get the same play. Checked it 4 or 5 times to make sure it wasn't just me. Defo got play in it. Other side is fine.

Got the rack fitted today. Took about 4 hours including doing the tracking. Will post a how too with pics when I get a min.

Hopefully problem fixed?

Yeah. All sorted. No clunking at all. Happy days. £40 fix and 4 hours of my time. Also did front anti roll bar bushes as I could get to them once I had to lower the subframe a little to get rack out. :)
