2.2 Diesel CU3 timing chain

So my 2009 es gt is developing an ever increasing rattle, from what seems to be the timing chain. Searching this forum I cant find many other threads where anyone has had to replace the timing chain. I know they don't have a service interval and are supposed to last the lifetime of the car.

Has anyone had cause to replace theirs?

Ah should have said it's 230k miles on it now. Yearly services over its lifetime. Possible that the maintenance hasn't been perfect over that time but I'm just surprised I can't seem to find anyone else that's had to change it out.

I would suspect your car is one of very few Mk8s that has the mileage warranting a camchain replacement.

You are a potential pioneer so take photos of the stripdown.

Yep never known anyone to have cause to do this on a MK8, and I’ve seen a few of these now. You sure it’s not injector knock/rattle you’re hearing? Is it doing it even at idle or under load?

Someone else on this forum replaced the chain on his iDTEC CRV but didn't post a report or photos. He had the engine out for another problem and though "may as well.."

A thought, will it be prudent to change the oil chain at the same time, ala Mk7s ?
