Civic 2.2
Hi all. I have a problem with a Civic that has the same 2.2 L engine as Accord do. The car is 2013 MY with 175000 miles. The problem is that it has like a booming/ bass sound coming from the intake snorkel/ pipe at idle and at certain revs, mainly at around 1500 rpm. I have tried oem air filter, non oem one. No obvoius change. I’ ve changed 2 engine mount thinking that are worn, ( lower one was). Ive even changed DMF and flywell. No change in sound. The sound is more noticeable when the outside temp is higher. I suspect that is something related to intake system, maybe like a stickying valve , egr or something, or maybe dryed out intercooler hoses, or airbox. The car didnt have this sound when bought . It started i think after a failed start up because i raised the foot of clutch and startup was interupted (i have start button). The car dosn t have dpf anymore but it was removed after the noise thing. No change in noise either after removing dpf… I have also noticed lately that an injector is noisy at half throttle. May be injector related? I put honda hds testet on it and things look ok. I performed some tests and all end ok.. Any help woud be apreciated since i can t find any joy of drivind the car.. Thank you!

Can you record the sound and post a video? It's hard to get an idea about it from your description.

I will do this later this day. As i noticed civic air box does not have a big resonator in the real sense unlike the accord wich has one but it shoudn’t sound as mine sound. Air intake hose on civics are inside the engine bay, next to the battery so the sound is in the engine bay. In coudn t figure why they didnt make a intake hose from the outside of the engine compartment like all other manufacturers… The sound somehow dissapear if you put the palm of your hand in front of the air intake snorkel like trying to cover it… Also you can feel the air waves if you touch the air box or the airbox to turbo hose; it pulsate, but if you restrict the intake hose it reduces significantly.. I will put the video and hopefully the mic will pick the sound. Thank you!

Has part of the hose come disconnected somewhere? There was someone I saw a while ago where part of the snorkel came disconnected (maybe intentionally). Worth following the whole chain to see. I'm not that much of an expert on civics or diesels though.

I have checked everything i coud . Checked air box, hoses, bracket. Nothing obvious. I do all my maintenance so i am familiar with the car and everything related. I did the DPF delete ( not the software), i did the DMF.. I coudnt see nothing out of order. Since accord and civic share the same engine i hoped someone else experienced something similar..

So i posted a video and i hope the phone piked up the sound. The car is in the garage hence the echo..

Just how noticeable is the sound inside the cabin ?

If you have gone to the trouble of changing the flywheel then I would go and have a look at the exhaust and perhaps a failure of the one of the baffles.

Maybe an exhaust blow somewhere? You can try to block the tailpipe and see if noise/gas escapes elsewhere?

I have tried that.. The sound is coming from air box intake hose. I was thinking that maybe the intake manifold is somehow partialy blocked or the swirl valve is blocked.. i have done a test in honda hds and it was ok, but when i read values at idle it says it is open at 63 % or degrees , can t remember and it is yellowed in the list. I dont know if these engines are prone to carbon build up. I removed the MAP sensor from on top of the engine and it was quite clean..
