Bought this -02 2L petrol auto Accord for £995. Seller said needed a new post-cat O2 sensor. Drives absolutely fine, just a petrolly smell from the exhaust. Failed MOT yesterday. Mechanic said both pre and post-cat O2 sensors look relatively new, so cat must be the issue, and needs replacing. Also needs some welding:

Repair immediately (major defects)
  • Exhaust carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle exceeds default limits
  • Suspension component mounting prescribed area excessively corroded significantly reducing structural strength Nearside Front Lower

Repair as soon as possible (minor defects)
  • Track rod end ball joint dust cover damaged or deteriorated, but preventing the ingress of dirt Nearside Front Inner
  • Suspension component ball joint dust cover severely deteriorated Nearside Front Upper
  • Suspension component ball joint dust cover severely deteriorated Offside Front Upper

Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories)
  • Fuel pipe/s corroded
  • Brake pad(s) wearing thin Nearside Front
  • Brake pad(s) wearing thin Offside Front
  • Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened Nearside Rear
  • Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened Offside Rear
  • Subframe mounting prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive Rear
Is this car financially worth repairing? I’ve had it about a month, if that.

Hmm. Think I’d rather get rid to be honest…
