My lovely 2004 2.0 EX Tourer petrol Automatic was happily (as usual) on the motorway yesterday at about 60mph, but when I got to a fairly innocuous hill it seemed to change down 2 or 3 gears and the engine screamed, but without much acceleration. It has never done this before, just changing down a gear or two perhaps on hills, and without any panic. With some experimenting I found that if I pushed hard on the accelerator the engine will rev very highly but again with little acceleration. Gentle driving is OK most of the time (so far).
So I looked at Google and found that automatic gearboxes apparently do have some sort(s?) of clutch and can slip.
The Automatic Transmission Fluid was changed in 2021 (it's due every 5 years/90k miles) with genuine Honda fluid. The level is perfect, and it is still a nice pink.
Does anyone have any experience of this condition, and if so, how did they fix it?
Could this be the end.....?
