Clutch pedal sticking down

Just driving and changed down to go around a round about my clutch pedal got stuck at the bottom, only released when I pulled over and pulled the cable under the bonnet can anybody tell me what would cause this to happen.

Check that you have fluid and check the condition og your master cylinder, they will need changing with age.

Which car? If its a ictdi check the cruise control switch position. My car has done this a couple of times then goes back to normal I have put some money a side fir clutch and flywheel if needed.But adjusting cruise control switch has made a difference for now.
