The handbrake on my 2006 diesel Accord is only working on one wheel.

The rear brakes are disc brakes and have some sort of self adjusters on them, but I don't know how they work, or if they sometimes need some sort of manual adjustment too.

Can anyone advise on what might be wrong and/or how to adjust the balance of the handbrake between left and right wheels?

I presume the car is a saloon, because the tourer is different and doesn't have self adjusters.

If it's the saloon, best thing is to remove the centre console to get to the equaliser and adjuster on the lever mechanism and look at that. If it's skewed over then either the cable on the non-working side is binding, or the self-adjuster is sticking. If you think it is the latter, then slacken the adjuster on the lever (to get both cables slack) then try to move the adjuster by hand.

yes, the saloon, with disc brakes.

Your advice was just right thanks. The problem was just that the self adjuster was not quite free enough. After wiggling it a bit it has freed up and now both rear brakes bind at the same time as the hand brake is applied.

Many thanks.
