I don't know if this is the correct section, but here goes. My 100% reliable mk 8 tourer surprised me last week coming home from Scotland. Just coming off the M6 onto the M61 a loud ticking noise then "BANG", clouds of blue smoke, so pulled over. It was, to me, an injector problem and the RAC chap agreed. When I looked at home the next day, number 1injector had blown clean out ! The bolt holding the retaining plate had sheared, allowing the injector to blow out completely, only retained by a mangled injector pipe. A new pipe and bolt solved the problem and now it runs as well as before. Anyone else had a problem like this ?

It’s not very common but it can happen, seen it on various diesel engines. Are the threads in the head strong enough to hold the new bolt in? Sometimes you need to tap a new thread in or oversize drill and helicoil.
