Hey everyone,

I'm hoping to get some advice on a strange issue I've been experiencing with my car. Lately, I've noticed a weird sound coming from around the turbo (I'm about 80% sure it's coming from there). The sound is best described as a metal spinning noise (but low RPM spinning, not turbo like spinning), like something inside the turbo is hitting the housing. What's odd is that I only hear it when the RPMs are coming down; I don't hear it while I'm driving or accelerating. Also, my serpetine belt tensioner is moving up and down like crazy + alternator light comes on and off every once in a while.

A few things to note:
  • The car doesn’t smoke at all.
  • It still pulls hard, so performance-wise it seems okay.
  • I recently discovered that my rear motor mount is cracked and needs to be replaced.
Could the cracked rear motor mount be causing this sound, or is it more likely that there's an issue with the turbo itself? Any ideas on what might be going on or what I should check first?

Thanks in advance for your help!

If the belt is beginning to play up it could be anything that runs off it or near it, including the idlers.

I would get that sorted first, then listen for other noises.

I replaced my alternator a few months back and the engine compartment got a lot quieter as a result.
