Evening guys, been doing around 90 miles a day on my 08 2.2 ictdi tourer and it’s been great, turned my my music down on way home from work on Friday and heard a horrible racket coming from belt area. Took the belt off and spun the loose pulleys, felt the tensioner pulley was a bit noisy, so replaced it with full tensioner and new belt. Car is flat from not running for almost a week, so jumpstart and lo and behold, the same noise is there straight away and the car cuts out. Any thoughts guys? I’ve spent a fair few £ on her, but where should stop. Thank you and sorry for massive story, I’ll include video of noise

Sorry can’t upload video

Unfortunately it could be the either the timing or oil pump drive chain about to let go.
Remove the belt again and then start the engine and let it idle for 30 seconds. If the noise is still there then it's the chain.
They are replaceable but quite and involved job as the engine has to be raised off the subframe to do it.

Thank you buddy, I’ll do this when I finish work, I hope and pray it’s not that, but if it is it’s goodbye. I will keep you updated

If you do get the noise (and it has only just started), then a full drain of old oil, new filter and fluid should keep you going for a while, with total cost around £70 .

From my experience with engine chains, they will give out only after there is a different change of noise from them as the guides start perishing.

Update guys, thankfully no chain or pump problem just alternator, I’m so relieved, popped the new belt off the new tensioner and ran the engine, no noise at all, engine sounds sweet. I’m so happy , hopefully I have this beauty for a while longer
