I have read recently about the government's plan to change MOT exhaust tests for vehicles fitted with a dpf. A new PN test, which may detect if a dpf has been removed or has been damaged.

From what I have read it seems they look to add this test on all diesel cars fitted with dpf which are registered 2013 onward.

My guess is that if they introduce this test then there will be alot of cars that have had deletes and will fail the new tests.

So what would be the possible options if you already have a deleted and remapped dpf. Would it be a case of having to refit the dpf, and if so is it possible to reset the remap back to standard?

Currently drive 2011 2.2 idtec, 60,000 on the clock with full SH. was looking at a dpf delete and egr blank and remap. But not sure if I should just keep the dpf on.

I know there are issues with blocked dpf, and fail to regen, again is this an issue that everyone experiences, or can the 2.2 idtec dpf be reliable if drove correctly and and engine kept well serviced?

Trying to weigh up my options here.

They’ve been talking about this for nearly 10 years, it’s nothing new really. And yes restoring a dpf is a case of fitting a replacement and having the software flashed back to factory stock, and some adaptations carried out.

Another question I have.. if I were to keep the dpf in place and get the egr blanked and remapped, would this create less soot build up in the dpf as the temperature would burn higher allowing a cleaner burn and less soot recirculated from the egr, allow for less regen and dpf life extended?

So basically this is what I read .

I'd never head of Euro 5b before reading this! I guess for all intents and purposes it doesn't matter as Euro 6 is the real one you have to care about for diesel cars due to ULEZ.

And yeah, this has been rumbling on for years. Personally I don't drive a diesel car but due to the low value of accords these days, especially diesels, unless you are really trying to prove a point it doesn't make financial sense to replace the DPF/EGR system, hence why most have removed it. I'm not sure i'd worry about it on these older cars. I think the only ones who might need to worry are people who have Euro 6 diesels and mapped out the adblue etc.

That link is for proposed changes in Northern Ireland. And in reality they’re just proposals.
