Hi, I'm looking to remove and relocate the current top display in my 2008 es gt. It's the basic non satnav display. I've found guides to remove stereo if this is done will this give the necessary access to remove?

Any help appreciated

Looking at pictures of the unit online it appears to push in using clips. Just waiting for the second hand display to arrive so I can butcher it and relocate it.

I had thought of putting in a double DIN Kenwood, for Android Auto, there so that I can leave the stock radio/climate system in place. So I have ordered a nav display from eBay and see if it will fit. The more modern Kenwoods are not as deep so it may not foul anything. The only things I have to do if this is feasible is to use the phone out to link to the aux in, add the aerial to the passenger side windscreen and pick up switched live, permanent live and earth.

I think for the Mk7 you have to leave the stock head unit in place and install it into the lower section where the storage pocket is like this:

For Mk8 there is a fascia to replace the stock head unit with double DIN - the climate control buttons remain. If you have sat nav you have to buy some other bits e.g. the base model display screen so you don't lose the climate info
