I used to have a service manual on CD but since a Windows 10 update wiped Explorer of the computer, it won't operate and I am just about to undertake the renewal of the hydraulic lifters and rockers.
So, is there a step by step guide for this job on here somewhere or can someone give me any pointers.
The car is a Mk7 with N22A1 diesel engine

I have got all the bit ready and really just want to make sure of things like torque settings and timing etc. Taking the cover and ancilliary bits of I have done before.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've just found this site for workshop manuals that covers Honda diesels, emanualonline.com, really big file to download 700 meg but only £10, and covers all diesel models, don't know if this helps anyone but Honda diesel manuals are a bit thin on the ground unless you work for them.

That being said It's probably the same as what you have on CD

You can mess around with compatibility settings in the browser but to be honest i've never had 100% success with that - the way I run ESM is to use a virtual machine running Windows XP - loads of info available online but probably the easiest way is to use VirtualBox - https://helpdeskgeek.com/virtualization/how-to-set-up-a-windows-xp-virtual-machine-for-free/ - once it's up an running you can load the ESM files onto it

Alternatively get an old computer running XP but a VM is the easier way

By the way, have you or anyome out there replaced the rockers and lifters?
Can it be done without moving the camshaft. I'd rather not have to re-set the timing given how much trouble it is to take off the timing chain cover and put it back on again!!!

I've not personally done anything this deep into the engine

Having had a quick look the first step for these tasks in ESM is "Remove the cylinder head" - not to say it can't be done without, but Honda seem to think that it's not the way to go

Why would you want to remove the head just to replace the rockers?

I guess to work on it on the bench (don't shoot the messenger!)

I would imagine you can do the work you mention with it in though

The ESM instructions are normally very good in my experience BUT you can often take some shortcuts. I did bottom ball joints the other day, which you have to remove the knuckle to do, and the ESM work instruction told me to remove the ABS sensor, which I promptly did and it snapped in the hole, had to drill it out. On the other side I left the ABS sensor in and it was fine, it wasn't necessary to remove it at all. The instructions were written with a box fresh car in mind not after 15 years of British road salt though..

To view the manual - Open Google Chrome (or whatever browser - i know this works in chrome) - 3 dots right hand side - Extensions - manage extensions - then in the top search for internet explorer and you can then open your manual through internet explorer - hope this helps

I tried your suggestion in Chrome but when I typed in internet explorer in the search bar at the top it came up with a message "no search results found"

Really though Christmas had come early!!

Any ideas as to what is wrong?
 
try searching on here for it, i think you might have to go to the Chrome Web Store

That doesn't seem to work either unfortunately.

Probably pushing my luck here but just to get me out of a hole, can I ask you if you could interrorgate your manual and let me know what the torque settings are for the bolts that hold the camshaft down and also the bolt that holds the crankshaft pulley on.

Is it left or right thread?

Hope I am not causing any probs but it really would get me out of the proverbial!!

The manual i have is for mk8 is yours mk8 or mk7?
If it's mk8 I can send it over

Thanks for getting back.
I wouldn think the crankshaft pulley bolt torque would differ very much if at all between Mk7 and 8.

Like wise, apparently the only difference between the two engines are the fact that the inlet and exhaust cams are reversed on the 8 so I would think the torques would be the same.

So if you don't mind, I would appreciate you sending it over.

How do you want to di it?
 
I've just put my manual in and I have the exact same problem as you. I'll find a solution and let you know and/or I'll try and open the disk on my old laptop
 
mine is working again - ill look for the torque settings in a moment
but - try and save the URL (the bit that comes up in your webbar) in your bookmarks - mine is

yours may be something different
then close everything down - open internet - go to bookmarks and try open it
