Steering rack boot / gaitor

Trying to clean up the arches earlier and noticed my steering boot has split completely.
Is this something I can replace myself?
Would this have been responsible for the squeezing I can hear from that corner?

yes, but obviously it depends on your level of experience, it slides on over the track-rod, you'd have to remove the track-rod end

I gave it a go this morning. I couldn't get the arm to separate from the hub so it's off to the garage this afternoon to get it done.
Once that was off I think it was plain sailing but failing to get that arm off put paid to those plans.

I've changed all my front ball joints myself. It's relatively simple. Just lots of wd40, a hammer and a blow torch make all the parts come loose.
