Hi guys,

Had 2008 facelift tourer since Feb, I think the car is phenomenal, but not had the chance to get fully underneath. My question is what are these cars like for corrosion? I want to keep the car for many years. One for sale close to me for spares as jacking point needs welding, just made me wonder.

a lot of cars suffer in this country due to the constant damp and muddy roads and the salt spread during freezing temperatures.
There are some good products to combat this but require intensive work.
Used this on a sprinter I have (renowned for rusting) and it was great.
Haven't used it on the honda yet but might do in the future.

My tourer seems to have zero corrosion underneath, a 2005 with 180k+ the clock.

It might be one or more of your previous owners was living near the coast, in which case the rot is unlikely to be stopped without taking the whole car apart.

Going to look underneath during the weekend, unfortunately I live on the coast in Scotland

I’m the forth owner Hopper, the car has been in London then Edinburgh and has a massive amount of history with it so hoping it’s not too bad, I’m waiting on axel stands arriving, so will let you know the outcome

You can get a pretty good idea of how it looks underneath by putting your phone underneath on the lowest zoom setting, flash on, and taking a video of you slowly panning your phone from one end of the car to the other.

I can’t download a picture, says it’s too large, but deffo looks a bit crusty underneath

Some pics

My series 7 Tourer failed the MOT last year on corrosion in the area of the 2 rear jacking points. I had the welding done at a very reasonable price but with this year's MOT due in October I'm planning to book the car in to have the underside checked out for any corrosion before winter sets in.
I did treat the car to an underseal treatment a few years ago and maybe I should consider that again - but MOT first.

Hi mate, that’s good you’ve got good contacts and you’re car sounds like it’s in very good hands, unfortunately mine hasn’t been looked after, I used a bit of rust converter on it at the weekend, with a view to doing a bit of wire brushing and underseal. BUT after removing the nearside sill, I have decided not to proceed, I’ll pop a pic in to show you it, offside is not much better, under fuel tank/ rear subframe also looks like cornflakes.

Such a shame, I love the car, but I think it is maybe at the point of no return/ not an economical repair. I wish Honda had better rust proofed these brilliant cars, I suppose it is a 2008 and it has done 200k
