Hi Guys

I have always put 0w-30 in the car (diesel engine, non partical filter) from new but now the milleage it rolling on a lot, I have been thinking about a change.
The car has just reached the 250K mark but it burn no oil between the 6K service intervals.
I was wondering if a 0w-40 oil would be better now. Winter is coming so I would like the oil to get round the engine as fast a possible from start.

Have been doing a bit of research and oil choice seems to be a bit of a minefield as regards adatives in the fully synthetic oils.

Any suggestions. Not interested in poor quality oils juts to save money, would rather save the engine!!

Thanks for any help

Stick to what’s working and what is recommended by Honda. By your own admission there’s no oil usage between changes.

Give this a go:

Depending on the annual mileage and type of journeys (commute or motorway) you might consider changing the oil and filter more frequently.

Additionally a flush of the sump area might also be useful to clear out old contaminants.

Forgot to say F6HAD

I did contact Castrol and gave them all the facts I put on this forum and they are adamant that I should use Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A5 but then they further down the page, ""For sure Castrol EDGE brand is better than Castrol Magnatec as we have mentioned because it has has a more advanced technology with fluid ***anium that provides superior engine wear protection, but the one recommended that has passed all the required testes is Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A5.""

Not very helpful in my opinion.

Hi Channel Hopper
Thanks for your reply

I have changed the oil every 6K which is probably why the engine is still smooth at 250K but as I said, I have been wonderin about different grades now.

Do you know anything about this Castrol engine oil shampoo?? any good?

Regards

No idea about shampoos at all.

I use the rated oil and try to replace the filter at every change. On this forum there have been many posts relating to a noise from the oil pump chain that usually signifies a lack of maintenance at some point and a quick death afterwards. If it's not rattling then you are good to stick with the recommended schedule.
