Any ideas what's causing this noise?



Only happens now and again 2.4 with 100k, sounds like a sticking starter or something like that?

That's an odd one. You're not in gear but with your foot on the clutch when you start the engine are you? Only, through my pap laptop speakers it sounds a little like grinding gears.

No not in gear, but I normally start it with foot down on the clutch.

Took ages to get the video as it never happened when I had camera on!

Hi mate my 2.0 does this (also 100k). It only happens every few times from cold start. It happened when my mechanic was listening, he said its the starter motor, that it might just have a bit of debris in it or something. He said to replace it if I want, but not to worry and its not gonna fail or anything.

My 2.4 also does this, similar mileage to the OP's car too.

Sounds link your starter motor running over slightly.
Iv had it a few in cold weather

probably the starter-pinion/solenoid is sticking a bit, stopping it from quickly retracting from the flywheel
