So when I got(actually swapped it for my old 3 series) my car the previous owner had hacked the tube that goes from the throttle body to the air box off at the air box end and had literally gaffer taped a cone filter on the end of the said pipe. I can't say I was overly impressed and figured I could do better. A quick word in work, I work for a steel supplier, and I acquired a length of tube and a couple of weldable elbows. Finished work on Friday and 10 minutes after getting home I did this
Then after throwing a tape measure around I took my trusty angle grinder out and started hacking up the tube
Next up I decided a quick trim down was in order, just gotta figure out the angles now
After a bit spit to stick it all together and a splat of paint I ended up with this bit
The hacked up rubber hosing is the remains of the original, just needed the first angle from the throttle body. After a lot of swearing, pushing, wriggling and persuasion it's on
Bonus to this idea is that I don't have front fog lights so there is just a black vented plastic plate where the fog light would be behind which now sits
Bumper back on and a nice stomp up the road, the noise on vtec is immense and there is a little growly cough now when I turn off the engine. So as I'm typing this I still have a stupid grin on my face
I did ponder about the whole hydrolocking but then after a bit of research and thinking it turns out I'd have to pretty much have to submerge the whole filter in water to do damage. If I were to find a puddle deep enough and in the middle of the road I'd be more concerned with the other damage to the car grounding out at speed, either way it sits pretty much level with the exhaust and I wouldn't wanna submerge that either.
Next job is to make a front strut to strut brace
