Hi everyone,

I'm new on these forums, I currently live in Canada, Montreal, and am planning to move to England in the next couple of months to live there and work there. I have an Accord Coupe V6-6MT 2010 (130,000KM) that I love so much...and I'm thinking about maybe importing it with me to the UK.

I tried to look online about importing cars from Canada to the UK but it seems a bit complicated...Can anybody here help me out and let me know how hard is it to import my accord with me? I have some questions;

1) Will I have a hard time finding parts
2) Will a 3500cc cause any problems for me?
3) Is it a car I can import
4) Any of you know how much it would cost me to import it?
5) Should I even bother going through all this trouble, or am I better off just selling it and buying something from the UK instead?
6) What about insurance costs?

Any input would be great! Thank you guys in advance :)

1) Other than brand new parts from a dealer, you may struggle to get parts
2) Not sure what you mean by "will it cause trouble"
3) I don't see why not
4) Since it's a 2010 model I doubt if there is any import duty if that's what you mean
5) Since the steering wheel is on the wrong side, and since it's not a model which is normally available in the UK, the resale value will probably be low in the UK
6) Could be high with it not being a UK model

btw maybe send a PM to Josh2109 he imports cars from Japan

Hi Freddofrog,

Thank you for the reply! By the question will the 3500cc cause any problems for me. I meant as in will there be any restrictions by the UK for fuel emissions or will they tell me the engine is too big? or will it cost me more money to import because it has a bigger engine?

I will send a PM to Josh2109 later today!

Cheers

Ahhhh I see ....no restrictions on any engine, apart from a lambda reading from the exhaust on a modern petrol car, which it should pass. But the car tax (aka VED or Vehicle Excise Duty) could be high due to CO2 emissions.

It can be done, there are many imports here, you may have to modify some of the lighting, but it should be able to pass our MoT annual test and be registered.

If you are moving here permanently it might not be worth it, just buy a car here.

Also remember we have an annual road tax charge and a 3.5 litre will be in quite a high band, its based on CO2 emissions https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables/rates-for-cars-registered-on-or-after-1-march-2001 might even be the £500 band.

Also consider petrol prices - we pay around £1 a litre.

^^ Agreed entirely with that. If you love big engined Honda's, buy the UK spec Legend.
