What's new

My thoughts after 2 months of ownership. A few questions too.

Hi, having driven the accord for nearly 2 months and after 3k miles, I thought I'd share a few points. Nothing I didn't expect (thanks to you guys) after going through this forum.

1. Very pleased with how it drives.
2. Feels lighter and smoother imo than the Passat I had previously.
3. Clutch is slipping in all gears except 1st and 2nd
4. HFT not working.

I have a few questions if you can bear with me.

1. How long before the clutch fails completely?
2. Should I change it immediately?
3. Will it affect anything else if I continue driving with it slipping?
4. I have AA parts and labour cover. Would this cover it?

Thanks in advance

Clutch won't fail completely but asking how long it will last is like asking how long a piece of string is.

If your warranty covers it, have it changed mate.

Glad to hear the Accord drives better than a passat.

All modern diesels have weak clutches - just too much torque for the clutch to handle.
Asfahad says: if your AA warranty covers it then get them to change it. Although it does require special alignment tools so ideally get someone familar with the Accord clutches to get it done. If not use the existing clutch until it no longer is drive-able. A clutch failure should not effect any other part of the car other than getting the car moving. The clutch will gradually wear and not fail suddenly. If you drive the car gently and not accelerate hard everywhere you can make the clutch last a long time.

What wrong with the HFT? it is a common issue on these Accords.
Intermittent connection? Bluetooth dropping out? Completely dead? no beep sound when you press the call button on the steering wheel?
The unit is located under the centre console. Try disconnecting it and then reconnecting it. Also press the cancel cal button on the steering wheel for 5 seconds - it should say handsfree is ok - if not then the unit could be faulty. There is also a known fault where it causes battery drainage and many previous owners just disconnected it. So your unit may have been disconnected for this reason.

Hope this helps

worn clutch can affect the flywheel, and if the clutch is not under warranty then you could end up paying more to have the flywheel replaced as well

why put off the inevitable anyway, it's not the same decision as cancer and dignitas

I'd be surprised if a warranty covered wear and tear items, which IMO makes them pretty useless for cars as everything wears and then breaks.

Thanks guys for the replies. The AA parts and labour isn't a warranty per say. It's only for a breakdown where the part in question is unrepairable. The HFT as you say is intermittent, I have disconnected and reconnected and it worked for a while but I couldn't connect to an iPhone 6. I'm looking at installing the Xcarlink kit anyway so not too bothered about it.

I have had a quote of £700 from someone I know who's garage mainly deals with clutches. The quote is for the clutch and flywheel. Not sure if he has done any accord clutches but as has been mentioned on the forum that this is a specialist job, Should I entertain this quote or does it seem too cheap for both clutch and flywheel?

Seems ok just make sure he knows the clutch has to be aligned with a tool. It's a subframe off job by the way

I second that, the clutch I had put on my K24 a few years back was 600ish i think and the garage had it ages and totally underestimated the work involved IMO.

^ I remember that, although I couldn't remember how much you paid, it didn't include a flywheel and they cut quite a few corners

If the OP was quoted £700, if that includes VAT, then that's £580 without VAT, and IIRC the clutch job is 6 hours, so at only £30 per hour labour, that leaves £400 for both the clutch and the flywheel. Without the flywheel, £700 (including VAT) is about right.

It's a big job, and I wouldn't want anyone to cut corners. Obviously the gearbox has to come out, but to do that both driveshafts have to be removed and the subframe has to be removed, but to remove the subframe the exhaust has to be removed.

it was definitely over 500quid, and they bust a drivers side wheel sensor in the process.

They had the car the guts of a week also. 700 seems a tad on the low side IF it includes a flywheel!

I am having issues with my HFT aswell, I have pressed the cancel button for 5 seconds and it says everything is ok but it keeps saying no phone found after going through the correct set up procedure and i have double checked i am doing everything ok. How do i gain access to the module in the centre console so i can try unplugging it and re connecting it again to see if that helps.
I have had the car 8 months and its starting to get frustrating now. lol.

Have a look at this website. It shows you how to remove the upper centre console. The Bluetooth module is secured via two screws. You will see a Large green connector going into the module.
Try squeeze the unit to see if the phone reconnects.

Try to use plastic tools to avoid scratching the plastics etc.

My bluetooth module is doing the same - i think its had it - Its a common issue on the 7th gen accords.
I think the only option would be to install an external parrot system instead.

Or Nokia CK7-W - Dirt cheap, 1/2 an hour to install.

I just use my aux in as hands free I have a phone holder that goes in the air vent. I use it instead of my aftermarket Bluetooth and think it's better quality sound threw the speakers.
