Accord Type S Tourer
Hi All,

To start off, I own a 2011 Pearl White Honda Accord Type S Tourer. Being a 2011 it is one of the first facelift models. I've owned this car for about a year and a half now. It hold great sentimental value to me as it was my late dad's dream car. Since I have owned it, I have been slowly modifying it to how he would like it.

I will talk about everything in the order I have done everything.

Firstly, I had the DPF and EGR Deleted by Fahad of Premier Tuning. Since then I have covered 20000+ Miles and the car has never skipped a beat.

From there I then added Starlights to the headliner, which some people hate but some people absolutely love and personally, I love them

I then got abit of a light obsession and ordered some Underglow for the car as well as some footwell lights.

I then felt extremely happy with the car and where it was at and started saving up money to get some performance/driving focused mods which is where I ordered some Rota Slipstreams and paired them with some Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 Tyres

I then decided to lower the car as the arch gap was WAYY too much for my liking and ended up ordering BC Racing Coilovers with uprated front and rear springs and HardRace Rear Camber and Toe Arms. This was the best modification I have done to the car. This car honestly surprises alot of people with the way it handles because you do not expect it from a car of this size.

This basically completed the aesthetics of the car and I was happy to say that this is its final look for now. My focus then turned to the Audio system for the car. There wasnt any options for this car that i could find so i opted to build my own system using a Raspberry Pie 4.

For the Raspberry Pie 4 Setup I used the following parts
- 7 Inch touch Screen
- 8GB Ram Raspberry Pie 4
- 128GB SD Card
- External Audio DAC
- OpenAuto Pro (Allows Android Auto and Apple Car play as well Bluetooth Audio)

This made the Honda Premium Audio System 110 times better as I had better control over the EQ and could fine tune the speakers to my liking.

If anyone wants a write up on the project please let me know as I can provide that if need be.

Edit:

I opted for this route as it would keep the original screen in the car functional as well as the display for the HVAC which i didnt want to lose.

But this has been the cars journey. From completely stock to it current modified state. It is safe to say that I love the car more than ever now. I have nothing bad to say about this car and I hope that my dad would like what I have done to it in memory of him.

Feel free to ask me any questions, I am more than happy to answer them. I can also provide links to the stuff i have used for the car too if anyone wants them. :)

PS For some reason i cannot upload the picture of the custom headunit I made for the car so if anyone wants to see it please let me know and i will send it to you directly.

EDIT: Here is the link to a photo of what the headunit looks like. It is not complete yet as i am still waiting on parts to integrate it completely into the dashboard.

You've definitely done some nice work and looks good. Do love a white accord.

Would be interested in how the raspberry setup works for future reference. Considered similar but didn't know enough about them before settling on the android display I went with. Looks very well integrated which is half the battle with these type of modifications.

No rush at all mate, like I say it's more for future reference
Got you, as for how it works, it simply plugs into your original AUX port in your car.

I’m still looking for wiring diagrams for the original stereo system so I can eventually get Steering wheel controls working as well as potentially getting the HVAC and reversing camera working off of the Raspberry Pie too. By no means is it complete. But it’s functional for now and works great! I know have a 15 channel EQ channel which has made the Premium Honda Audio System sound a lot better. Overall, I personally think it’s the best option for the 8th gens.

The android unit I fitted piggy backed off the existing stereo using the factory connections and taking the signals from there for the HVAC and steering wheel. I don't have the premium stereo so my upper display being removed for the android screen meant the info had to be displayed on the android screen but there is a premium version. If you could get hold of the wiring separately maybe and if you could make sense of the mass of wiring it might be a solution.

I think most of the android screens that are sold for the MK8 Accords are only for Petrol versions of the car, I could be wrong be I think the Diesels have different wiring. I have found something called a "CarPi Hat" which will allow me to wire the Raspberry Pi directly to the cars harness allowing me to use steering wheel controls again aswell as control the HVAC from the device itself. But I'm not in a rush to any of this as I feel like the functionality is pretty good for the time being,

Mine is a diesel think the only difference is between the premium and normal stereo. I know the unit I bought came with the option of 2 different wiring looms to suit. The normal stereo I have doesn't display the HVAC info so this is now displayed on the android unit. I'm guessing this isn't done with the premium wiring as the original stereo still displays it.

My unit currently is just using the existing AUX port in the car. Once I have more time to fiddle with it I will spending time to get it all working without having to use the AUX port in the car and it will just work when I turn on the car leaving the existing AUX and USB ports free and useable.

any issues with the clutch since the remap? did you gut the dpf internals? any other breathing mods to get that power output?
The Type S has an uprated clutch from factory as well as a bigger intercooler from factory. No other mods have been done except a Dual exit Exhaust which is just for looks more than anything. The DPF was gutted and EGR was blocked off.

nice

nice, im seriously considering a 2.2 type S for my next car, and id want to do similar mods for performance

Honestly, do consider it. Mine give me 700 miles to a full tank, that’s a mixture of motorway and city driving. I feel like I can get more out of it.

there are a only a couple of things I would look out for: rear calipers sticking, possibly the master cylinder and maybe handbrake cables. That’s about it. I had my clutch replaced at the beginning of this year but that’s because it was completely worn out from when I got the car.

im not to worried about mpg or little faults, i run a garage and i have a company van, i just like them and can get more power out of it than my 2.4 petrol, plus they are newer and drive nicer

You can get a lot of power out of the k24, personally I think it’s a better engine but you do have to spend abit more on parts to get decent power gains.

yeah k24 is a fantastic engine, there aren't any plug in aftermarket ECU's for the accord tho, im not really wanting to go down the stand alone route tbh

You can use the Stock ECU (depending on what generation Accord it is). You should check out Gaijin’z Garage on Facebook. He’s the man to speak to about this. He specialises in stock ECU applications.

Nice Wagon! I have the exact opposite colour, mine is Black, if I had been able to find a white ATS Wagon I would have bought one but they are hardly super common especially in Estate form.
It was also a bit rushed because I had to replace a daily driver Mk7 wagon that was rear ended and written off.

I like your mods, the lights aren't to my taste but that's of no relevance. I like the modernisation of the head unit, that's one feature that shows the cars age. I have a 2022 Merc van and the UI is much better than the Accord but the Accord is a much better driver and that's of more interest to me.

I have been through a good few tyres on mine and the Asymmetric 5 are grippy but too shortlived for me, I am currently running Kumho Ecsta HT51 and highly rate them for wet grip and longevity.
Did you have any issues with rear camber chewing the insides of the tyres?

Thank you for the comment, I never used to like having all the lights but they started growing on me when I started doing everything and the Headunit was doing my head in as it wasn’t modern enough.

as for the rear tyres, I have rear camber and toe arms which have allowed me to get the camber and toe set correctly. When you lower these cars you don’t have enough adjustment in the stock arms to get them back into spec so you do have to buy them.

The Asyemtric 5s lasted about 15000 miles before I had to replace them. I now have Uniroyal Rainsport 5s. Personally I like the A5s better but they do perish quite quickly.
