So the alternator has been replaced and everything electric wise is ok for the moment. The power steering pump is noisy and is on its way out one day, but not too fussed about that just now.

What I am concerned about is the lack of go.

1st is okish

2nd onwards there is nothing until 2800-3000rpm then it pulls really strongly. Then when pushing it hard to 80mph it goes into limp mode.

Turn the car on and off and it's fine until it does it again.

Not ideal.

No engine management lights on though.

are you using a genuine fuel filter?
Have you checked your air filter?
What oil grade are you using and when was it last changed?
is the car mapped ?
What fuel is it run on?
How many miles on the clock?

Fuel Filter or stuck egr valve, ***uming the air filter is clean.

Car is overdue a service by about 300 miles.

Normally service my cars straight away when I get them, but due to alternator issues, haven;t

I has full honda service history so presume genuine

87000 miles
no remap
It's a 55 plate CDTI Tourer
no remap - yet.

EGR wise - are they unstickable on the cdti? I've cleaned them up on saabs and golfs before.
Presume air filter is in need of changing.

Will call holdcroft for the parts on monday.

Will the oil be much cheaper from them?

When you say 'unstickable'? They are uncleanable, but not unstickable... in fact sticking EGR valves are becoming the thorn in the ictdi owners sides as these cars get older. If it is your EGR, either replace or have it mapped out with our Stage 1 or 2 remap.

Happy to have it mapped out if that fixes it. Does that stop it sticking or od I need to unstick it first before remapping it?

Fuel filter wise - Is the Bsoch fuel filter the same as a genuine honda one?

Any idea if Holdcroft Honda will be cheaper for the oil and filters as well? Their battery and aux belt price were excellent.

Can you drop me a PM with remap prices?

Cheers

David, I would try changing the fuel filter first if you don't know whether its already been done.

As for the EGR valve, we close it permanently within the software and then map out any errors so it's as if it was never there in the first place. And yes the genuine Honda fuel filter for a pre facelift Accord ictdi is a Bosch item, and for the 2006 onwards facelift cars, it's a Denso cartridge filter.

Does using an aftermarket air filter and oil filter make much difference?

I can't believe that Eurocarparts charge 17 quid for an air filter.

Stick to the stock Hond air filter, I think they're less than £20 anyway. And genuine Honda oil filter is around £10 anyway.

You also need to get the fault codes read so you know where to look.

AM fuel filters really dont go well with the icdti engine.
Change it for a genuine part and see if the problem still occures

New OBD 2 scanner ordered. Old one was a OP_COM only, although I'm sure I've used it on other cars in the past.

UPdate

Fuel filter fitted car now doesn't cut out - a slight pogo after fitting. but nothing has returned. AIr filter fitted - old one looked brand new.

REread codes, no new codes have appeared.

Still too flat on the acceleration with not enough go below 2000-2500. It does now pull past 100 happily but again feels a bit flat.

Tried to pull boost pressure from the OBD2 but it can't connect to it.

So is the EGR still suspect now then?

Not fixed.

So if I rag it it goes, a bit slow to pick up until about 2500 and then it goes ok.

If I put it in 4th at 50mph and put my foot down it does nothing, then goes into limp mode.

Any still throwing up p1237

Honda Specialist says frequency valve, the one on the top of the engine, that is missing the filter.

He has blocked it off with a screw and improved it a lot until I get the vallve delivered. THen a clear the codes for me.

He has mentioned that worst case scenario is that I might have an ECU fault that reports over or under boost. It is a known fault that caused a recall in some civics hrv and crvs. In my model range and age range.

Trying to find out now if it is, but Honda have said so far they know nowt about it, yet he has spoken to them today as an ex honda employee and had the servicing department confirm that this was a fault.

Wait and see if the 117 pound fix does fix it....
