Hi all,
I was looking for a topic or any information anywhere but couldn't find something regarding th accord electric chairs.
My pasanger eletric seat is stuck folded on back at maximum a doesn't come back if press the button to fold back to the normal position.
So when I press the button I can hear the electric engine trying to fold back or to fold more and see a small movement of a bar.
At least I know that it does have power, buttons works, electric engine is working but the rail or something is stuck.
My daughter left the backseat at maximum and stayed on it and now doesn't want to lift back to normal position. Can anyone help with some ideas or photos, any information iw welcome, thank you.

A close video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1Ftv3hnDXk and I think i need to take the chair out to look better. Any idea without to take the chair out?

I will come back tomorrow with 2/3 photos as I have took off the plastic covers where sits the buttons to see the mechanism.

I once reclined a seat in an old Mercedes 300se whilst driving which didn't come back up. It was a scary drive back home with the seat reclined. I didn't of course mean to recline it all the way, I was just jiggling the button so that it would return back forwards but it didn't. I remember to fix my problem I sprayed wd40 on the contacts for the switch because it had become full of crap over the years and dirt had built up inside the switch. This may not work for you as you can hear your motor, could something have spilled over the button, like a fizzy drink causing poor contact? I'm not sure if it's appropriate to spray wd40 on electrics so do so at your own risk

Have you tried pulling the seat back up while you press the button ? (just enough to help it get started on the rail)

Hi
Thanks for replies.
The buttons are working properly
I have tried to pull a little bit when pressing the buton to bring up the back seat but without the luck, I will put tomorrow someone too push the little harder and t press again the button.
From my point of view is like is not on the thread back anymore.

hi,
i have clenead the buttons contacts and still no luck, its like its jammed and i need to take out the central console to get to the other side to take the back seat off

It's been a while, but if memory serves, start with removing the ash tray and all screws under the ashtray. Give the gear knob surround a good tug to remove it (maybe unscrew the the gear knob off as well so everything comes apart easier). I don't remember where the rest of the screws are, but once you have the gear knob surround piece off I remember it being very straight forward remove everything. I think there may be a couple of screws in the bottom of the actual centre arm rest, so empty it and have a look. A small screw driver and a torch should be all you need for the job. And when removing the gear knob surround, don't be afraid to really tug. The clips that hold it in place are tough!

Edit: I'm thinking about the manual, it might a little different removing the surround on the auto

hi steve, tks for trying to help but this is an auto gearbox. i've done some progress wth the armrest central console remove but its like its holding i place something.
nobody took out the hole console? its one big part or splits in half? tks

Change of plans, hopefully it won't be necessary to take the hole armrest console out. I will try to remove the seat but it will be difficult because of the position its right now.
Also I found this info here http://www.hondaaccordforum.com/forum/general-tech-help-7/03-accord-sedan-power-seat-recline-failure-15260/page2/

4) grab the star-shaped shaft with a large set of vice-grips or slip-joint pliers; press the recline button so that the seat tries to recline and then "help it" with the pliers.

One more trick to try http://acurazine.com/g/picture/1943257I got it figured out! Here are some more detailed steps to help:
1) Remove 4 bolts holding chair in the car.
2) Remove the 2 screws from the plastic molding where the switches are on the side of the seat
3) Pull back the cloth from the side where the motor is.
4) There is a little window on the side metal frame that is facing the door. In this little window you will see the back portion of the gears, this is where you use the flat heat. You stick it in there, while hitting the switch back and forth position the flat head under one of the teeth and against the metal frame. Going back and forth a few times should unstick the gears.
5) Put it all back together

I've managed to take out the centre console armrest to have more space to try too fix or take out the seat from the car. Anyway to take out the centre console armrest is easy with only caveat - the cup holder won't give up so easy but I have also made some pictures-can't attach. If you have issues to take it out ask.

sorry if I sound a bit daft, but #10 reads as if you've fixed it ...so where is the issue exactly, is the seat still not fixed, and if not fixed, are you still trying to get it out of the car ?

no the seat is still in the car and not fixed...the post #10 is some idication or help for some which can maybe work but in my case i need to take the seat out because of the position I can not deal with it inside and was forced to take out the centre console as well to have enough space to take it out which i'm still looking how to do this yet.

see if you can get the passenger seat out first, that might make enough room to get the driver's seat out (with the console out as well)

the seat is dismantled complete and the culprit is the mechanical mecanism as the gears, electrical motor and the gear bar are all ok.
now i really do not know how this get stuck so hard and how to push/pull to get the backseat/recliner to move 2/3mm so that the mechanical can be released.
some information or maybe someone else saw this happened before, tks
i would like to attached some photos but don't know how here.

some good pictures there, but I cannot see the part that is stuck.

if you hold the mouse over the top-left of each pic in your link, then click on the "share", a new section opens. In the new section click on the bit of "code" under IMG (bottom-right in the new section), you can then paste the "code" into the post. I've done it for all 10 pics.

I suspect that the pics are shown in reverse order

Hi
Tks for asking.

This recliner has two important moving parts:

1 is the electric motor with some gears attached to it which is working properly and
2 which is the mechanical gear inside the seat.

In 3/4/5 photos you can see the gear bar which is going inside through the plastic gear which is inside the seat metal mechanism (this right side is stuck ) and reaching the other end of seat (left which is free moving) which is similar to right side

The right side of the seat is stuck but the left side is moving free as it should.
This grey gear bar is moved by the electric motor on the right side which now is locked.
The gear bar is going inside through that white circle which is a gear inside the metal frame and this gear/plastic thing is moving the backseat left/right.

I can't understand the system or how this can be so locked.
I can't understand why is a plastic gear locked inside the metal frame or could be the actual frame locked or bended just enough not to move. The white circle is fixed on the frame and moves in the same time with the frame when is not locked like the left side and can't b taken out its like it's moulded inside the metal frame.

Any idea what to do release it it would help.

hi,
i have attached the photos as i finally found the guilty one.
i have also edit the photos to see whats happening.

to fix the backseat i need soeone knowledge how the withe circle gets out as its stuck inside and cant get it out.

the first 6 photos are with the one which is working on the left side and you can see cleary that the coil spring is after the white circle and its a bigge gap between the end of this coil spring than the one on the right side from photos 7....

the unlocked one -which is working properly :

tks and i'm waiting ideas who to get this thing out.

i have tried to push from the other side with no luck, i have tried to pull no chance then i tried to take the coil out no chance again, i'm really stuck, tks you all.

hi,

after having a good fight with the seat the winner comes here to tell the story :

1. if the electric motor and contacts are working and usual are
2. the gear bar broken - less thing to happen as its very resitant
3. the issue is from the actual mechanism inside the seat which reclines; there are 2 metal plates which slides in a oval shape and if this doesn't slide the backseat doesn't move at all; mine were almost YX position I mean wrong as after i took the backseat off from the bottom i did see the difference between the sides.

thread can be closed as issue was fixed. tks.
