Hi guys,
In a few weeks I will replace the clutch of my 6th gen 1.8 Accord, and since I am there, I will replace the rear main seal. The proper way to remove the seal is to remove rear main seal housing, replace the seal and re-install the seal housing. To remove the seal housing, I have to remove the oil pump... In fact, it's possible to replace the seal without removing the seal housing, but since I have an oil leak from the oil pan gasket, I will just re-do the gasket and try to stop that leak.
If I am not wrong, this engine does not have an oil pan gasket. We should apply Hondabond to "form a gasket in place" (FGIP). Tracking the Hondabond part numbers referenced in the repair manual, the current sealant is the Honda Liquid Gasket 1216E - 120, part number 08CRAHLG120G, which is a bit pricey. At local parts stores told me about a REINZOSIL sealant (http://www.reinz-industrial.com/EN/PRODUCTS/Sealing-Compounds/REINZOSIL.aspx), which seems to be identical to Hondabond, but can't find many opinions on it.
I also found good references to Permatex Ultra Grey, but can't find locally. I would have to buy it online...
The thing is, the rear main seal housing also needs to take some sealant, and if I find the sealant is no good, I will have to re-do everything...
Do you guys know any good alternative to Hondabond that you trust? Or is it best to stick with Honda stuff?
