Hi all,
I'm a new member and a first-time Honda owner. I recently bought a 2000 Accord 1.8 vtec se exec 5 door hatch with 120k and fsh. It drives beautifully, but has a few faults. I've got a leak on the pwr steering system. I've identified it as coming from what I believe is called the lower return line. It's a solid pipe that runs under the engine, front to back, and connects between the pipe cooler in front of the rad (via flex hose) and another flex hose at rear of engine bay. The pipe is corroded and leaking from beneath the clamp that holds it to the subframe, just in front of the engine and under what I think is the aircon pump. I think it's only the rubber sleeve of the clamp that is holding in the pressure, as it's bulging!
I've got a couple of breaker yards trying to source a spare for me (Honda want £160!). I'd like to know if anyone has had the same thing and how difficult it would be for me to replace the pipe myself when I get one, and anything else I may need to know to do the job. I'm not hugely knowledgeable about cars, but I'm good mechanically. Any advice or info would be much appreciated.
Thanks very much
