I notice Haynes dont do a manual for the UK Accord but do for the US version. Is it worth having do you think as there seem to be a lot of similarities under the skin even though they look quite different.
Can you send me a link of such one. As i'm afraid to order the wrong one, as the usa accord is different from the us one, and even the TSX has much different partsfreddofrog said:No don't buy one, it's virtually useless.
It was the first DIY guide that I bought for the car, back in September 2009, £15 on ebay.
The section on the engine is ok, but it only covers the 4 cylinder 2.4 engine and the V6 3.0 engine.
The section on the brakes is just about ok, apart from the fact that the rear brakes on the US car is a drum brake (I kid you not).
The section on the aircon was just about relevant, same goes for the gearbox, driveshafts, suspension.
But really, it's a different car. The Accord we have over here is more like the Acura TSX over there.
A couple of years later I bought a genuine Honda e-manual (DVD) for the European Accord, on ebay for £30, money very well spent.
wow, that was quick, well done !!darlog1 said:Recieved my disc today
thanks for the info on where to get it
see what you mean much more detail than any haynes iv had before
worth every penny of £20
brilliant idea, excellent info !!!!darlog1 said:I email him and sorted straight away
Ebay no longer allow him to sell them so he has them on gumtree
still has a few left too
Some time ago someone gave me a copy of a copy (not a typo) of the full 2003-2008 DVD, and I had already done the above.ukcl9 said:Ive just brought the dvd from the above link.
They say it cant be loaded to the hard drive,you also need the dvd in the drive at all times.this is false
If you delete all the other languages apart from English and German.the software always starts up in German,you can get it down from 8.5gb to 1.2gb and zip it down to 350mb.it can be stored online so other people can ***es it.
It can also be stored on your harddrive and makes the searching the pages instant
The manual itself is great.its like lego instructions for the accord
Your way is good I will have to try I did a different way I used http://arainia.com/software/gizmo/freddofrog said:Some time ago someone gave me a copy of a copy (not a typo) of the full 2003-2008 DVD, and I had already done the above.
I remember you posting this but I didn't comment at the time. However, yesterday I wanted to get it onto a new laptop, but the copy (of the copy) had "faded" a bit and the Windows "drag-and-drop" kept stalling ....this wikipedia link explains why DVDs "fade" .... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_disc_recording_technologies#Longevity
Here is the best way to get the ESM in English only, onto a directory on the hard drive
1. I created a directory called "esm7gen" (you can call it anything you want)
2. you only need to copy the "_COM" and the "en" directories, and the file "HONDAESM.HTML" into the above
3. then go into the "_COM" directory, right-click on "LANGINFO.JS" and select Edit (it should open in Notepad)
4. there are only two functions in there, one is SetLang which looks like this
function SetLang()
{
var i=0;
gLng[i++] = LangItem('de','German');
gLng[i++] = LangItem('en','English');
gLng[i++] = LangItem('es','Spanish');
gLng[i++] = LangItem('it','Italian');
gLng[i++] = LangItem('pt','Portuguese');
}
5. delete all the languages except English such that the function now looks like this
function SetLang()
{
var i=0;
gLng[i++] = LangItem('en','English');
}
6. save the Notepad file back to disc
To start up the ESM
A.. double click on "HONDAESM.HTML" and "Allow Blocked Content" in I.E., then OK on "Execute Microsoft Internet Explorer", then No on "Do you want to close this window" (some messages can be eliminated by modifying a couple of other JS files, feel free to ask for more info)
B.. then expand the browser, click on "Shop Manual" and there it is, the ESM in English
Use of Robocopy if windows drag-and-drop keeps stalling
If you are having difficulty using windows drag-and-drop to copy the "en" directory from the DVD (it's about 500 MB) use Robocopy in a Command Prompt window (not available in XP). Robocopy is much slower than windows drag-and-drop but it will do a very very thorough job
You can suppress the verbose line-by-line (there are 56,000 files in the "en" directory) by using the /NFL switch
e.g. create the "esm7gen" directory in windows explorer, then drag "HONDAESM.HTML" into the directory. Then open a Command Prompt window, navigate to the "esm7gen" directory and, if the DVD is in E: , type this into the command prompt
robocopy E:_COM _COM /e /NFL
then
robocopy E:en en /e /NFL
It will take a couple of hours to do the "en" copy, and you will hear the DVD speed up and slow down as Robocopy checks the CRC for each file (it might throw up some "retrying" messages when it finds a dodgy file, and the DVD will run very slowly)
edit:
btw the "esm7gen" directory zips to only 138 MB
I've just uploaded the 138MB zipped "esm7gen" directory (english only) to a Dropbox account ----> https://www.dropbox.com/s/sqffgrgyzl86lhp/esm7gen.zip?dl=0Roranora said:Is there any possibility that someone would be so kind to upload this to Dropbox via a zip or iso somehow for myself only? I have quite a bit of work to do on my CL7 Accord and would highly appreciate a manual of some sort to help me along the way.
Cheers
Well he's had 2 years of selling them since my recommendation in #7 and my copy of a copy (nor the original) did not originate from him anywayukcl9 said:Winchester trading will love you freddofrog
I thought I better test it, so downloaded it and unzipped it, but it doesn't run properly, whereas the original is okfreddofrog said:I've just uploaded the 138MB zipped "esm7gen" directory (english only) to a Dropbox account ----> https://www.dropbox.com/s/sqffgrgyzl86lhp/esm7gen.zip?dl=0
Hi freddofrogfreddofrog said:I thought I better test it, so downloaded it and unzipped it, but it doesn't run properly, whereas the original is ok
I'm hoping that some of the files were corrupted in the unzipping and not in the zip before I uploaded it.
So if there are any problems with this let me know and I will try a re-zip and new upload.
That's normal, even when using the DVD... Just say yes. It's a little 'clanky' to use in general, but the information available is fantastic.hikeifulike said:Hi freddofrog
Thanks for the file, there might be a glitch though, I get this message when I try to open.
"Execute the Microsoft Internet Explorer® Version more than 5.0."
I am using version 11, any suggestions?
If you right-click on HONDAESM.HTML and then Open With -> Notepad, near the end of the html code you will see thishikeifulike said:Hi freddofrog
