Right so I need to get the car inspected, do I need to go to trading standards or just see what the garage says first

Alternator sounds ok, noise is differently coming from around the camshaft area like a clattering/scratching sound.

Yes I removed the carriage too I believe the lense is to the right about 1 o clock

Right took the dvd player out today and strip it and cleaned the lense best I could, took me about 1hr and a half, I put it all back and tried it but still says dvd disc cannot be read, tried forcing it but nothing happens, tried to do it by starting from scratch,it says waiting for gps but...

Do u know where I can get instructions from to help me taking it apart

Just bought a dvd lense cleaner from pc world and tried it a couple of times but still doesn't work.

Is there anyway of finding out if my satnav dvd player is working properly or not.
