    Tie Rod Terror!

You can indeed. I thought it was brilliant when that got opened up to the public. It's always my first stop to get the part numbers from there and then search around. They seem very detailed too which is handy.

Car struggles with air con on.

Same as Cheddars for me. I'm sure it could do with a gas (and a new condenser) but on or off doesn't make much odds. Admittedly it does struggle a bit to reach maximum frosty in this horrid hot weather.

    Radiator fans

Same with both here. Air-con will trigger one of the fans if I'm thinking right.

Why does my car sound like a flying saucer?

The good news is none of the lights flash unless you enable the daft modes a few of them have. Usually just red lighting for the controls and a white text display. Most I ever had on the units I owned was a scrolling display for song ***les when using the USB input. If it's still present there's...

Why does my car sound like a flying saucer?

Only stereos I've bought for my cars. Even acquired an old cassette one after my brother replaced it in one of his cars. Never bought anything more than a fairly basic unit (£50-80) but they always worked flawlessly. They do a unit for pretty much whatever you require (DEH-4800BT perhaps) and...

Buying advice on 6th gen accord 1.8 vtec

And of course, no matter what the car do a history check through somewhere like MyCarCheck. I've used them for my last few cars and well worth it.

Buying advice on 6th gen accord 1.8 vtec

Mine was/is like this too. It's not anything serious as you should be able to carefully push it the rest of the way home if needs be. I even bought another mast from eBay (not a Honda item but fitted with some fiddling) and it still does it. Although recently it has been going all the way home a...

Synthetic Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 into F20B6 engine

Sticking my reg in to Castrol's Oil selector brings up Edge 5w-40 or Magnatech 5w-30 A5 so you should be good to go. Mine's a 2000 F20B6 with about 91k on it and I use Shell's recommend flavour of Helix HX7. My dad's car is a 1998 F20B6 with about 137k and he uses all sorts in it and never had...

Why does my car sound like a flying saucer?

Makes life easy if someone's done the stereo before. Pioneer do some nice units without a CD slot with bluetooth and all the usual bits. Keeps the unit a bit smaller and they usually sound pretty good. Had one in my Astra before getting the Accord with Bose kit (now with 3.5mm aux instead of the...

    Vtec not kicking in

For the filter a Honda genuine or Blueprint one is all I'd suggest. And for oil I tend to stick to using Shell Helix HX7 in the correct grade. Neither are that expensive and best to avoid anything cheap like the Euro's own brand bits.

Why does my car sound like a flying saucer?

I'm going with one of the ancillary v-belts being the culprit. But so far I've spent all of about 5mins looking in to it :-p Take it yours is not of the Bose stereo flavour. As they are not easily replaced without bodging the amp back in to life.

Why does my car sound like a flying saucer?

Stereo problem? Just turn it up till you can't hear the other noises :-) One of my belts is now squealing like a female dog on startup after having them done. To my eyes all looks fine in there, and took a few runs before this started and only does it for about a second. Doesn't always happen...

    Clock bulbs.

Hi Alan, I don't have much experience of getting in to that part of the dash but here's what I can find in the ESM if that helps. The bulb looks like a it'll be a T5 maybe. Certainly some sort of push in type. Click on the pictures for bigger versions.

    Wierd Auto gearbox issues

Certainly symptoms of a low fluid level/pressure. I'd be careful about driving it too much while things aren't working properly. Hopefully there's a cure that doesn't involve the sacrificing of chickens or the sale of bodily organs.

    Wierd Auto gearbox issues

You'd think putting that much fluid in would show up somewhere. There's not exactly many places it can go internally. And something is certainly misbehaving. Degrease everything and anything the ATF would go through or near. It'll be a faff but might show up a very small leak in on of the lines...

Why does my car sound like a flying saucer?

Good news in many ways. The water pump is a very simple affair and small enough that I can't imagine it making any noticeable noise. Could be wrong mind. How about a small blow in the exhaust system? I'd wait to get your planned work done and go from there. If you're lucky it'll disappear...

Why does my car sound like a flying saucer?

This here made me think of it. Usually you can hear these things a mile off, similar to when belts are doing their Flipper impressions. If you're booked in already for the belts then may be worth waiting to see if it's still there once they've been done. Can't really think of many other things...

Why does my car sound like a flying saucer?

Mentioning the clutch brings to mind the possibility of the release bearing being on the brink. Does it go away with the clutch depressed while stationary? Driven many a car with that problem. Even had a few where it's died while going along which makes gear changes 'interesting'

Buying advice on 6th gen accord 1.8 vtec

Price is right going by what you say. But 2 services in 16 years is not very good. The given intervals on these are fairly long (nothing compared to the jokes they prescribe cars nowadays) but time can do more damage in some cases. Give everything a good looking at. I know it can seem a bit...

    Just bought a 99 6th gen Accord.

Might as well pick up the two ancillary belts as well. They have to come off for the timing kit to go on anyway. Then it'll be good for a few years. Well worth checking out the pollen filter guide on the forum if you've not done so already. It's easy enough, just a case of burrowing your way in...
