From what I could remember the ride was a bit harsher after replacing the stock shocks with KYB. I didn't change anything else just the actual shock. Although I did do both sides. Best practice I think is to change spring and shock. To be fair the original shocks went up to 90k miles. And also...

Is yours a 7th gen diesel Ned? Just checked with reg of our old 7th gen diesel which we had before and that is subject to the charge. My current 8th gen diesel is also chargeable

Loosen the bleed valve on the caliper whilst pushing back the caliper. If no fluid comes out when loosening the bleed valve on the caliper remove it completely and make sure its clean. Blow out any rubbish stuck in the bleed valve using an airline - with the valve off the caliper obsviously...
