ooooo dem dam spark plugs !

Adjusted the valve clearances today. They were all fine except one cylinder needed a slight adjustment on both inlet and exhaust. Anticipating this job, I bought a new Draper 10mm spark plug socket (I had a 16mm in my toolbox). They came out easily using a short extension plus ratchet. The...

    Rear drop links - rattle

Thanks Andy, excellent guide. You should work for Haynes. My last one was very smooth and quiet, this one not quite so. I can do this job myself, no crawling underneath ! After this, the car should be just how I want it. Oh except I need two new front tyres before winter, on the front...

How many miles left in the tank when the petrol light comes on

Ha ha yes I Know. It could also be zero ! So one has to extrapolate between zero and 9 litres - I thought 4.5 litres a reasonable compromise. I wonder what the mean distance between petrol outlets is in the UK?

How many miles left in the tank when the petrol light comes on

Well its all very interesting, but the OP wanted to know how much fuel left when the light comes on. Page 71 of my owners handbook says : "less than 9 litres left when the light comes on" so half it for safety - therefore a gallon left say. So you had better find a station in the next 35 miles !

    Rear drop links - rattle

Update Its booked in on Wednesday for drop links, bushes and rear pads. All the bits cost me £40 off ebay. Still not happy with the fuel consumption - not as good as my last one, but its a bit quicker. I think I will check the valve clearances in the next week or so. Not sure about the EGR...

    fuel consumption slightly worse

good morning i have just returned from Scotland with the new Accord and did a fuel consumption check. Its worse than my old one - which used to do 40 mpg on a run using cruise. This one only managed 36 mpg. Its slightly noisier than the old one - so will check valve clearances soon. Could...

    Rear drop links - rattle

Andy thanks for your reply. Yes I have looked up on ebay the cost of the components, indeed they are inexpensive. The problem of me working on cars, is that I am now 60 and not as fit as I was, particularly since I would have to work in the road outside my house. Plus there is always a tool you...

    Just bought another one !

Update. The rattle from the back is now confirmed: drop link(s) and roll bar bushes. The people at Kwik Fit diagnosed it on their MOT ramp. I must say I think Kwik Fit give very good service - didn't charge me anything, but I gave the guy a drink. Info: Where ALL 6th generation built in...

    Just bought another one !

Power steering leak fixed. Got a spare wheel for it. Just repainted some scuffs on bumpers. The rattle from the back is the exhaust I think (its had a new section). I think these cars are really good value now. I paid £550 for it and got £40 for the huge sub woofer that was in the back. I...

    Rear drop links - rattle

Just driving along. Its not so much a rattle as a series of small clunks. Also get it when, for example, I move forward a foot (eg a junction), then brake.
