Quote for valve clearances to much?

I don't know how long it takes but garage labour is around £35-40 an hour so 1 1/2 hours for £60 sounds about right.

Interior light - no 'on' position?!

Give the lens a push to turn it on / off. Took me 2 months to figure that one out by accident!

    2.2 i-cdti diesel fuel filter (2004)

I used that guide and it was a real help. Took me about 2 hours but then I did only have 1/2" drive sockets (although I do have small hands). Should be able to do it quicker next time now I know what I'm doing.

    2.2 i-cdti diesel fuel filter (2004)

Si, the ictdi is REALLY fussy about fuel filters.Aftermarket ones just seem to cause trouble with hesitating, cutting out etc. Most on here only use genuine Honda fuel filters. A bit more expensive (£25 -£30 I think). But trust me, its definitely worth it. You really don't need your car to start...

gear oil ? transmission fluid ?

The diesel Accord loves a gear oil change. When I got mine the gear change was notchy and I had occasional trouble getting it into 3rd. Got the oil changed and presto! Smooth as butter. A change is recommended every 75k (I think) but I know some folk on here do it more often. I think there's a...

    Accord repair manual

Guys, I'm confused as to how this thread has panned out. The newbie is actually a honda technician (Newbie post) so there's a good chance his DVD is bonefide and not some "dodgy file". Ok, it may have some sharing restrictions in which case posting about it would be against forum rules (but hey...

Slight rev drop on hard accelerating.

V, if your warranty is due to expire, get it to Honda asap. It might be that contact spray will fix it but don't wait for the warranty to.run out to find its something more costly. In any case, be sure to report back!

    clutch slipping

£100? Yeah I remember those days. On the Accord, the clutch is an all-day job with the subframe having to be removed. This obviously ramps up the price, especially at a dealership.

    Car battery vs cold weather

Just get a new battery. It will have plenty of power in it to start the car after your holidays and you won't be faffing about in a cold car park trying to jump start your car. It'll also prevent you having the same trouble all winter.

gear oil ? transmission fluid ?

That's for an automatic gearbox fella. MTF = manual transmission fluid, ATF = automatic transmission fluid. Some manuals do take ATF but pretty sure the iCDTI takes MTF.

    Fuel filter change or not

At 41k, I'd definitely change it. Better to do a little preventative maintenance now than suffer a problem later on.

    30k miles in my i-CTDi

Glad to hear you're enjoying it but I don't envy your commute to work! Its also good to hear that you've got a good one and that the diesels aren't always the moneypit that the faults section would suggest. :)

    Steamy windows

Your warm, moist breath condenses on a cold windscreen, causing it to mist. Starting the car and sitting in it a few minutes will warm the windscreen so your breath doesn't condense so much on it. As soon as you move off, the car is moving through the cold air. The windscreen cools again. Your...
