Difficult starting when parked facing uphill

Has it been noticeably cooler the last few mornings? If so heater plugs likely suspect. If not, could be fuel line related - air getting into system, fuel pump etc. The extra smoke will be because the engine isn't firing cleanly enough.

    Tyre dressing

Zaino Z-16 is very good. Needs a while to dry in though.

    Cold weather

Also the AC will do wonders with keeping all the windows clear.

    cv joint?

The first thing I would do is get someone to check the pads. It could be a combination of a low pad and a very slight warp in the disc.

    Tyres/steering

A few quick questions: are you using premium brand tyres? By alignment are you meaning a proper 4-wheel alignment? What pressures are you running?

    cv joint?

I had irritating light scraping noise on a previous car, only happened on corners if I remember correctly. Turned out it was the brake pad just starting to get down to the wear indicator. You wouldn't expect excessive heat or grease. When it next happens just lightly tap the brakes while...

    cv joint?

Could be your brakes disc/pads. Either worn or a stone in them. Try (when safe to do so!) giving the brakes a very gentle touch when you hear it and see if it stops.

    Driveshaft compatibility CN1's

If they are new at £119, then personally, speaking from experience, I would avoid them. Thats what I paid and it hasn't been a success. Ian, I would suggest getting a second hand passenger side shaft first, this is normally what causes the problem. When the car is wobbling if you dip your...

    Driveshaft compatibility CN1's

Its kinda difficult to tell just from looking at them. I stripped mine down and still didn't really find anything obvious. The only way to know is to swap your shafts with known good ones. You can try the Ebay ones and if they don't solve it send then back. Just check returns policy obviously...

    Driveshaft compatibility CN1's

According to lings they are both the same part numbers. Normally, its the passenger side that gives the most problem. But you can end up like some of us, throwing a lot of money at this problem with second hand/reconditioned shafts.

    Gearbox Half shaft play?

Glad you sorted John. I do agree totally with you, I wish I had just spent the money on genuine new shafts and be done with it.

    Help - Dealer overfilled oil

Hence the reason I always check the level before driving over the forecourt :o Check it again when cold. I find that the oil level can be slightly up when warm, due to the way the engine block must expand.

Oil change problem with oil filter

Is the plastic gauze broken before you remove the old filter? There was a thread on here a while ago about the accord having two slightly different lengths of filters. I wonder has the housing being changed to the longer length or something?

Different tyres all over the place!

I had mixed tyres on the back, but same on the front. Dispite getting a 4-wheel alignment my steering wheel was still at an angle when going straight ahead. After changing the backs to two of the same, the steering wheel has come back to centre when driving in a straight line.

What sort of mpg do you all get on your diesels?

I agree with you there, just keep it below 2k and there seems to be a good improvement. Just checked my stats and I've averaged 51mpg since March, over nearly 12k miles.

    has anybody else tried

Agree with the 2-bucket method, but with the right products there does seem to be an increased acceptance of modern "waterless" wash methods. See http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=195294 for more info that might help :)

    Gearbox Half shaft play?

I don't think its the DMF, your new one couldn't be done yet. Is the car idling smoothy or is it lumpy/car vibrate badly at idle? All I can say is that when I had the complete driverside done the car was a lot better, but still had the vibration very slight but hardly noticable. The...

    Gearbox Half shaft play?

John, your local dealer should be able to swap shafts with a known good car to identify which shaft is at fault, you just pay for the labour. I'm getting to the stage of buying brand new and be done with it. If you can verfiy the milage from the breakers then yes, although you'll likely not...
