    CTDI oil consumption

Hey Spud, as it turned out Honda Horizon MD Christchurch ( I am down that way 2 times a week ) got back to me . They matched Suzuki MOT and service price £140 all in. So cancelled Suzuki and went back to Honda. My Accord Diesel is 9 years old so MOT is always a bit tense. As it turns out it...

    CTDI oil consumption

Well I have decided to take my 05 Diesel Accord to Suzuki. They told me they use Castrol 0W/30. £129 for service plus £10 for MOT. My car is 9 years old now so I will be looking for whoever offers the best price (using genuine parts and fluids) for my repairs.

    CTDI oil consumption

It amazes me how quickly the oil turns so black in a diesel, and that is after just a few miles after a oil change. It's like it's never been changed. I suppose that's normal in any diesel.

To part exchange or not part exchange that is the question

Looking back maybe I just didn't explain it very well. when I said he got the technician in it was at my request. The salesman merely asked about the timing chain (maybe he noticed something was wrong) as it was for part exchange as soon as he mentioned timing belt it was me who asked if someone...

Thanks for that info but I am all sorted now. When I phone a couple of weeks back I was quoted £850 as per link http://www.honda.co.uk/cars/owners/partsandservicing/fixedpricerepairs/ Good to know Hendy does it for £621 though.

To part exchange or not part exchange that is the question

After giving it a lot of thought I have decided to keep my 7 year old diesel Accord. I spoke to City Honda in Basingstoke who done a very good job of my timing chain and they are going to let me have a Honda backed extended warranty of 1 year with wear and tear for £300. I read somewhere that...

To part exchange or not part exchange that is the question

The most important thing and the biggest expense is getting the timing chain and injectors replaced under warranty that's a big relief. When I had the VSA failure I asked the dealer who is carrying out the work to checked the timing chain and manifold and he said that both was OK. The dealer...

To part exchange or not part exchange that is the question

Thanks mate. Freaky ia an understatement. I must admit it has been playing on my mind for a while all these problems. The night before I was doing about 60 nothing else on the road and coming round a bend I had to break very hard to stop. Someone had left a mattress in the road, it was soaking...

To part exchange or not part exchange that is the question

Well.....The VSA light came on and stayed on when starting the car on Saturday morning. Gutted. I did have to break very hard to a stop the night before. I had to go to the New Forest Saturday morning so popped into dealers who confirmed the VSA failure. They said they would give Honda UK a ring...

    timing belt?

That's great news. It does help if someone has done this fix before and and that's a good result at a grand. Will they put the shorter alternator belt on at the same time as that way it wiil only cost the price of a belt. Who knows Honda may even supply you with the kit it's still worth a call...

    timing belt?

This is the type of problem I am trying to avoid. I have about 4 weeks left on Honda extended warranty covering the timing chain. I am going to try a few dealers to see if I can get it done for free before the 4 weeks is up otherwise I could potentially be in the same position as you. What about...

No worries Trev and thanks for the info. It is easy as you say to get paranoid about things. I just opened the fridge to make a salad just now, and I swear I could hear the Bee Gees singing in there … … it was just some Chive Talking.

No trev's wrong I am not in anyway a fixed rate mortgage kinda guy LOL far from it. Thanks for the summing up tho trev it made me smile anyway. I would be interested to know what 3rd party warranty company you could recommend and would they cover the parts that are a problem? I don't mind...

Sorry to hear that mate. Could you not ask the Honda dealer to phone Honda UK and try to get a goodwill gesture of some sort maybe worth a try. Good luck anyway. Barry

To part exchange or not part exchange that is the question

Sorry but I am not convinced with the work under the bonnet VSA theory. The VSA modulator can and will fail (I am talking about the 05 diesel) at anytime it is a manufacturing fault hence the extended warranty which is a joke at 62,000 miles for a diesel. The work under bonnet thing is only...

Wow. That is incredible. Can your mate not get the part even in a breakers yard? Well at least I can rule out a Saab.

Aah Fahad...... with age comes wisdom my son, It's the price of these repairs that I have an issue with and anticipating problems before they happen is part and parcel of buying/selling cars. The car that I replace it with will be newer and will come with a warranty and as I have said before a...

To part exchange or not part exchange that is the question

Looked into Honda extended warranty it is £299. For a start it doesn't cover everything and Honda will not do another year (they only cover for 8 years) after that. If I took out the warranty and wanted to sell my car next year I would lose another £1,000 on value of car so overall extended...

Alright Adam, Yeh, it's through reading forums like this and seeing your problem and many other Accord especially the 2005 diesel's that makes me think do I really need a diesel not to mention the DPF problems on newer cars. Like you I don't do the miles anymore. Plus I now got a works van...
