    Trouble starting

If it was injector leak off you wouldn't have air in the pipework, just a failure to build pressure sufficiently quickly. I've seen this scenario a few times before, although admittedly not on a Honda, and each time it has been air leaking into the low pressure pipework, usually through a...

    Trouble starting

There is no non-return valve. If you stand back and think about it you realise that the fuel pump is higher than the tank and so, left to its own devices, the fuel will drain back from the pump to the tank. In a system in good condition the reason this doesn't happen is that the system is...

    Trouble starting

As Jon says any scantool is only as good as the person using it. With this sort of fault I can well believe that there were no fault codes. However examining the live data would show up the problem pretty quickly, provided the person doing so knows what they're looking for. I too would like to...

    Glow plugs?

I presume this is a facelift car in which case the part number is 26 on this diagram - http://www.lingshondaparts.com/honda_car_parts_selection_pfk.php?block_01=17SEA701&block_02=B__0421&block_03=3167 . A far more sensible price than the pre-facelift one if it needs replacing. Alan

    Another starting problem :-(

Ian, I never had any problems with my Accord's fuel system or engine in the year that I owned it. What I have written has come from experience with a couple of other CR diesels I have owned. To answer your question problems with the return piping will not cause a loss of pressure at the...

    Another starting problem :-(

Just thought I'd pop in and see how things are going. I'll try to explain why a hot/warm engine can make this problem appear and also why the fault can be present at starting but once the engine is running everything appears to be OK. As is well known common rail diesel systems operate at...

    front brake caliper piston sticking

I would try a little clean brake fluid and a few twists of the piston to see if it frees up. If not then it's time to take the piston out because there may be a problem with the seal.

How long are you people planning to hang on to your cars for - and why?

Yup, it is. Just need to sort out what all the knobs and switches do. BTW this too has the disc/drum rear handbrake setup.

How long are you people planning to hang on to your cars for - and why?

As the car's going to my daughter somehow I think that I'll still get called on to sort out whatever she manages to break so I'm sure I'll still need the help of this forum!

How long are you people planning to hang on to your cars for - and why?

To answer the original questions - two more days. I'm giving it to my daughter who needs a bigger and more reliable car than her wretched unreliable Golf . It's being replaced by a 2011 Subaru Legacy estate.

    clutch special tool

Thanks for the useful info. I've only ever done a couple of self-adjusting clutches (for family members) so it is interesting to hear from those with more experience that they can be done without the pre-load tool.

    clutch special tool

Jon has given you a link for fitting of the CG clutch which is a fairly straightforward item and should not need any special tools. If however you are fitting a standard clutch then you do need a special tool to pre-load the clutch. This is because it's what is referred to as a self-adjusting...

Knock at the rear under braking

Rather than clutter up this thread with an esoteric discussion I'll respond to Brian by p.m.

Knock at the rear under braking

Just to clarify the parking brake, whether drum or disc, is mechanical - no hydraulics involved. Required to be this way by the Construction and Use Regulations - a piece of obscure knowledge from years ago when involved with builidng rally cars.

    Injector issues

Well, if Honda's injector pulling tool involved the use of a slide hammer I'm not surprised they had problems with it. A silde hammer will never remove really stuck injectors without damage. The good tools for this job use a hydraulic puller and are very unlikely to cause damage to the head if...

    Injector issues

They are warning her of the worst possible scenario. Unfortunately the injectors can be very hard to remove where the seal has been leaking. Carbon deposits form between the injector body and the head gluing the injector in place very effectively. The following leak might give her and you some...

    VSA Modulator Light

It won't read the codes you're interested in. To explain a little this is an EOBD-compliant reader and will therefore read codes from your car, but only those relating to powertrain faults - basically engine and gearbox. I'm not aware of any consumer-level reader that can handle the ABS or...

Power loss/hesitation AND now starting problems

Unfortunately there are no magic bullets when it comes to diagnosing this sort of thing because the same, or similar, symptoms can have a number of causes. If you look at the third link which Jon supplied you will find towards the end a part on diagnosing such problems and this, or similar...

    Fuel Pump Solenoid Removal

Great news, Jon, I really didn't think you'd get the part before Christmas. I'll pour myself a little drink to celebrate the success (and the fact that I've finished work untl the new year! )

    Fuel Pump Solenoid Removal

Ah well just got to wait on the Royal mail now! As you say Bosch Service Centres aren't actually run by Bosch. The one big advantage they do have, though, is access to the range of Bosch parts catalogues and technical info which is otherwise difficult to come by.
