The ABS light on my 2000 2.0l Exec is permanently illuminated. I have taken it to three garages, the last one being a specialist, each time I have been advised that the car won't allow the reader to access any ABS faults which may be stored and they all appear to be baffled. My car has a 16 pin socket and I believe the mechanics were using an OB2 reader. I have been told that I can either have the light bypassed so that at least it is extinguished or I can take it to a Honda main dealer for their opinion. I am reluctant to be without the ABS system and I don't relish paying main dealer rates. Furthermore, if three mechanics with the right equipment can't access the codes, what special piece of kit will a main dealer have that will. Do I have a problem with the cars "brain" or is there an older type reader that can get access. Does anyone have some easy method for checking the system? I reckon I could check the wheel sensors myself as I am a reasonably competent DIYer, but what about the pump and other components. If I can't resolve this I am probably going to get rid of the car which I am reluctant to do cos I love it too bits, as I am sure you will all understand. Any advice would be welcomed.

Hi Whitedog

I know it sounds too simple - but I ***ume you have checked the fluid level in the reservoir and that when you replace the cap it is screwed down fully so the sensor is low enough ? (sorry if you have already done this, but it happened to me after a main dealer service ! )

Good luck !

Dave if its like the 7th gen than i would say its an ABS sensor at fault. If it means going to the dealers to grt the code read then that's the way to go.
Im sure there is a way to read the code by a light flashing i will look into it as there is a thread hear about it.

As Brett mentioned its worth checking the wheel speed sensor, you can do it by checking the resistance with a multi meter. Check NSR first as its a common one to go on 7th gen.
