Hi all,

I have a 2000 honda accord 2.0 se vtec in black.

On start up its idle is lumpy and will shut off a couple of times until it warms up and maintains a lowish rev.

After the engine has warmed up it goes up to 2000 ish revs.

I have done a scan and it brings up the following:

1. P0118
Powertrain: Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Circuit High Voltage

It also brought up engine coolant temperature -40 when it had been running for a short while.

I am yet to on the advice of a froum member get the IACV cleaned.

Dont really have much skill in that department might have it done from someone whose good with motors if its too tricky.

Cheers

what was wrong with putting this as a reply to the other thread you made?

Could be the thermostat going bad, if its throwing temp related codes.

*****************RESOLVED*******************

The issue was with the coolant sensor.

The ECT sensor was broken snapped off in the plug itself.

Replaced and voila all sorted.

Honda Guy from America.

"When the computer sees that the coolant is -40, it dumps a lot of fuel into the combustion chambers and runs funny. What you can do is find the coolant temp sensor and see if it is disconnected. If it isn't, with the ignition off, disconnect the connector and jump the wiring harness with a wire. Turn on the key and see if the temp is now maxed out on the gauge. If the temp sensor is maxed, then you have a bad temp sensor. Replace the sensor, top off the coolant, and clear the code. If the gauge didn't move, you have a wiring issue somewhere."
