Accord Type R
Hi All,

new to the forum and new ownership of the Accord Type-R, just a little weekend project. Was perfect when I went to pick it up, but more or less overnight developed an issue with the gearbox in that I cannot get it into reverse, feels like reverse never existed.

Read plenty on Google about the 5th gear and reverse issue, but no fixes.

Can anyone advise of the parts required to fix, or if there is a quick fix I can get it back into operation until I save up some cash for repair.

Any advice either way would be very much appreciated.

thanks all.

Hey dude, welcome to the forum :)

Sorry to say this but there is no easy fix. It's a gearbox rebuild as the 5th gear synchro is a known fault on the prefacelft type Rs and some of the earlier facelift models.

The reverse gear and 5th both share a synchro which is why they 'both' fail.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news dude.

Thanks for that bud, excellent information. Dont suppose you know what sort of job it is to change the syncho's? or are we talking specialist job?

Having a quick look on ebay.... would something like THIS work ? Or if not, what Model/Year should I be looking at?

It's a gearbox rebuild basically. Remove, dismantle, replace synchro, rebuild and refit.

To do a rebuild is up there with a engine rebuild in terms of mechanical skill. However there is alot of diys out there making it possible to do your self if you can follow instructions and have tools.

No that is a mk7 diesel box! Thats a downgrade lol.

You are after a H series gearbox model code U2Q7.

Whats just as hard is getting the box in and out tight not much room!

Anyway lots of options just depends on your skills and wallet.
