Well managed to get the new alternator fitted yesterday and now there is no more horrid clanking noise 
I would like to thank Salim for the DIY he did it came in very handy! Whilst I had the belt off I spun the pulley on the tensioner and thats deffinately noisy and the car still has a distinctive knackered bearing sound to it so thats next on the list of things to do, luckily only around £35 from Honda.
